About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting for a Social Studies Instructor at Vinal Technical High School in Middletown. This role involves educating students through exemplary trade and academic programming to prepare them for skilled workforce needs. The position is first shift, full-time, Monday-Friday, 7 hours daily, for 188 days per school year. CTECS has a long history of providing Career Technical Education and serves as a direct employment pipeline for high school students and adult learners.

Requirements

• Possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in: 026 (Social Studies).
• Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom through differentiation.
• Knowledge of History/Social Studies content and pedagogy of all high school History/Social Studies curricula.
• Understand the varied needs of each student.
• Work collaboratively with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students with special programming; ensure IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications are implemented.
• Set instructional goals and outcomes.
• Knowledge and use of varied instructional practices and resources.
• Effectively design instructional learning opportunities.
• Effectively design assessments.
• Develop mutual respect and rapport with students.
• Establish a culture for learning.
• Manage classroom procedures.
• Positively manage student behavior.

• Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and authorities.
