About The Position

Under broad supervision, provides rehabilitation counseling services, referral services, and resident evaluation to assigned clients. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of job-related experience; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Social Svcs Prgm Coord 1 (SSP030) or position equivalent.
  • Some positions require eligibility for licensure.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Professional Counseling, or Master of Education Counseling AND Eligibility to be licensed as a counselor in the State of Georgia.
  • Completion of a Master's degree in a mental health field from an accredited college or university (e.g., counseling, social work or psychology). The degree must be in an area that would qualify the graduate for licensure by the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists.
  • Licensure as a State of Georgia Professional Counselor, Social Worker, or Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • For SSP032 (SSP II): Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Professional Counseling, or Master of Education Counseling.
  • For SSP032 (SSP II): Two (2) years of related postgraduate experience.
  • For SSP032 (SSP II): Eligibility to be licensed as a counselor in the State of Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and/or directs intake services to youth, including mental health screening in accordance with policy and time guidelines.
  • Directs or completes mental health assessments of youth, interviewing them and/or their families, contacting other professionals, reviewing records, and identifying psycho-social stressors, strengths, challenges, risks, level of functioning, and needs. Completes written mental health assessments, determines appropriate services and alternate plans of care, makes necessary referrals, and documents findings in a timely manner.
  • Provides therapeutic counseling to individuals, groups, or families to effect positive change in youth's behavior and/or social situations. Complies with confidentiality regulations, develops and implements treatment and/or crisis management plans, conducts individual and group therapy sessions, provides crisis intervention services, and offers on-call evening and weekend coverage. Provides consultation and guidance to other staff who interact with youth.
  • Leads or participates as a member of a treatment team to identify youths’ strengths, resources, symptoms, and psychological challenges to develop and monitor an effective plan of treatment. Presents assessment summaries, participates in identifying strengths and weaknesses, selects appropriate treatment goals and interventions, provides clinical input into treatment plans, initiates changes based on reassessment, communicates treatment goals and services to youth and families, monitors progress, and writes progress notes.
  • Prepares and submits required reports and other documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Presents verbal summaries of reports to treatment team members.
  • Engages in clinical supervision to facilitate the development of clinical knowledge, skills, and professional integrity. Participates actively in supervision sessions and contacts supervisors for consultation when encountering ethical or clinical challenges.
