About The Position

The Social Services Supervisor of Travelers Aid Chicago will provide day-to-day operations and activities of the program including serving participants and providing supervision to volunteers. Supervision of the volunteers includes but is not limited to coaching, supporting information and materials, managing performances and consulting with Travelers Aid Volunteer Management in accord with organizational policies and procedures. The Social Service Supervisor will report directly to the Program Manager of Travelers Aid as assigned. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience required
  • HHCS Background check required
  • Initial and annual background check with City of Chicago’s Department of Aviation Badging office required
  • Must stay O’Hare badge compliant at all times
  • Access to regular, dependable and timely transportation
  • Ability and comfortability working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information possessing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner
  • A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by Heartland Human Care Services
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision
  • Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Bilingual strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct services for appropriately referred participants, cases, Protective Travel Service (PTS)and/or projects.
  • Supervises the case/treatment plan, referrals, follow-up schedule and advocacy needs, etc. for participants/cases of the program.
  • Administers non-personnel financial transactions (e.g. participant support) within established parameters.
  • Remains current in the field of service provided by the program through self-initiated avenues, as approved by higher level of management.
  • Maintains quality service delivery and programming-including: Maintains and updates policies and procedures related to contractual obligations, Heartland Human Care Services Philosophy of care and industry best practice.
  • Monitors office coverage and productivity.
  • Supervises volunteers in accord with established policies/procedures.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with appropriate groups/organizations etc., as approved by higher level of management.
  • Provides training to assigned volunteers inappropriate facets of the position.
  • Facilitates cooperation between volunteers, staff, and others, including the airport community.
  • Participates in O’Hare Service Meetings, Team Meetings, and other internal and external meetings as applicable.
  • Conducts outreach and training with community partners and stakeholders as needed.
  • Submits required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Administers non-personnel financial transactions (e.g. participant support) within established parameters.
  • Other duties as assigned.
