About The Position

Community Action Wayne/Medina (CAW/M) is seeking a Social Service Specialist to serve as the first point of connection for individuals and families seeking assistance. This role involves managing a high-volume caseload with accuracy, empathy, and strong attention to compliance, especially when working with individuals facing difficult life circumstances. The position offers a 4-day work week and is mission-driven, directly impacting the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in social services, customer service, or a related field
• Valid Ohio driver’s license and insurable record
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn case management systems
• Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-focused approach
• Ability to work effectively with diverse and vulnerable populations
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• High attention to detail and data accuracy
• Ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally challenging situations

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, including answering questions and scheduling appointments
• Determine eligibility and process applications for programs including HEAP, PIPP, CSBG, and HWAP
• Collect, verify, and maintain accurate, audit-ready client records
• Conduct community outreach and occasional home visits
• Enter and maintain client data to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Provide referrals to internal and external community resources
• Respond to client concerns and ensure timely resolution
• Support quality assurance, compliance requirements, and program operations
• Collaborate with team members to support a positive work environment
