About The Position

Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority (JPHSA) is a Local Governing Entity (LGE) created by the Louisiana Legislature in 1989. JPHSA is responsible for the management and operation of behavioral health and developmental disability Services in Jefferson Parish. JPHSA provides fully integrated primary and behavioral healthcare services through its JeffCare program. JeffCare, a program of Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority, is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) comprised of two sites. JeffCare's goal is integration of primary care and behavioral health services to best serve the needs of the population; and, empowerment of individuals to achieve improved quality of life through the provision of effective services, delivered in an environment of integrity and respect. The Social Service Counselor 4-A works in the JeffCare division under the direction of the Behavioral Health Program Director-B(Behavioral Health Program Manager). The incumbent provides individual therapy, group therapy, and outreach activities. Managing Projects: The ability to plan, implement, and close out project initiatives by coordinating people, resources, and timelines to achieve defined outcomes.

Requirements

  • Six years of social services experience
  • Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of social services experience
  • A bachelor's degree plus three years of social services experience
  • An advanced degree in a social sciences field plus two years of social services experience
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
  • Positions that provide addictive disorder counseling or prevention services will require certification or eligibility for certification issued by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority (ADRA), or its successor.

Responsibilities

  • Completes the screening and intake process with individuals seeking treatment services using comprehensive assessments and appropriate diagnostic interviews
  • Facilitates individual therapy sessions using applicable evidence-based model. All active service recipients are seen once a week, or as clinically indicated
  • Facilitates group therapy weekly
  • Conducts weekly support groups for individuals who are in treatment or who have completed treatment and want additional support
  • Conducts family groups, as needed, for relatives and significant others
  • Links individuals with needed social services and additional treatment if necessary
  • Collaborates with community groups/ organizations to conduct presentations and discussions about substance abuse, and provides outreach activities to increase referrals
