About The Position

The Social Service Aide 3 – Children, Youth & Families position is an advanced level paraprofessional position which assists professional social service staff with completion of paraprofessional case management functions and providing services to clients. This position is performed under close supervision of a Caseworker Supervisor and is not responsible for the supervision of other employees.

Requirements

  • Completion of a high school, or general equivalency diploma; AND One year as a County Social Services Aide 2; OR At least three (3) years of professional work experience in public contact work in a human services agency which includes one year of experience in interviewing and obtaining information; OR Possession of an Associate's Degree in Sociology, Social Welfare, Psychology, Gerontology, Criminal Justice, or other related social sciences; AND At least one (1) year of professional work experience in a human services agency; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possess and maintain a valid and current motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record.
  • Personal vehicle required for County business; employee is eligible for mileage reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of infant and child care or care of the mentally disabled.
  • Knowledge of home management skills which includes family budgeting, meal planning, nutrition, selection/care/maintenance of clothing and household equipment, and personal health/sanitation/grooming.
  • Knowledge of Federal, state and County rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize family problems and transmit the information to a professional social services worker or supervisor.
  • Ability to instruct individuals in the activities of daily living and/or the care of infants and children.
  • Ability to move and correctly install child passenger restraints (car seats).
  • Ability to effectively use an Outlook calendar for management of daily schedule.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze information obtained through interviews, general observation, reports, and records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, their families, agency staff, and other community agencies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and tracks referrals for social service aide requests, ensures accuracy of initial referrals, and ensures updates of ongoing referrals.
  • Schedules all social services aide staff for supervision and transportation assignments and maintains equitable distribution of assignments in consultation with supervisor.
  • Assists professional social services staff in completion of paraprofessional case management functions. This may include, but is not limited to, reviewing case plans and obtaining signatures on such plans, and providing and obtaining routine documentation and signatures. This may also include assisting a social service professional in the office or field for safety.
  • Serves as liaison between the agency and other community organizations and services as assigned.
  • Assists clients and encourages them to use available community resources, provides information to clients and their families regarding referral and emergency services, and assists with completion of necessary related forms.
  • Educates staff on available community resources.
  • Provides testimony in court as required.
  • Schedules and/or provides transportation and accompanies clients to medical appointments, social service organizations, placement, educational and/or training facilities, visits between placed children and their parents, court hearings, and other visits.
  • Supervises family visitation between parents and children in placement, involving the exchange of children from resource/foster parent to biological parent and/or relatives, occurring in agency offices, family homes, or in the community.
  • Documents client contact and activities for case record and reports important information to the assigned caseworker.
  • Provides childcare for small groups of children while their parents attend parenting classes, appointments at other agencies, and/or Court. May also provide crisis childcare.
  • Ensures visit rooms are maintained in an organized, clean, and safe way.
  • Reports need for cleaning or maintenance to the appropriate custodial and/or maintenance staff, which may include need for replacement or upgrades of furnishings, flooring, and equipment.
  • Ensures visit rooms are stocked as needed with products such as diapers and wipes.
  • Responsible for automotive fleet oversight including maintenance and repair.
  • Monitors reservations and use of agency vehicles.
  • Duties and responsibilities of this position involve work of a confidential nature in dealing with client interviews, records, information and contacts. Confidentiality is to be maintained at all times in accordance with current regulations and policies concerning use of client records.
