About The Position

The Social Media Coordinator supports Cape Fear Community College’s social media presence through day-to-day content creation, scheduling, campus engagement, photography, video production, and performance tracking. Working under the direction of the Social Media Manager, this position helps maintain an active, timely, engaging, and brand-consistent presence across the College’s social media platforms.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of major social media platforms and how content and audiences differ across platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging short-form video and social media content.
  • Strong photography and video skills using smartphones and/or professional equipment.
  • Ability to edit video and images using appropriate creative software and mobile applications.
  • Strong writing, editing, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, employees, and community members.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while operating within an established social media strategy.
  • Ability to recognize engaging stories and content opportunities in a college environment.
  • Understanding of social media analytics and basic performance metrics.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when representing the College publicly.
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility and social media best practices.
  • Ability to learn and appropriately use emerging technology, including AI-enabled tools, to improve content development and workflow efficiency.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a creative and communications team.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team with individuals with diverse backgrounds.

  • Associate degree in communications, marketing, digital media, journalism, graphic design, photography, videography, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience creating social media, digital, video, photography, or communications content. Relevant internships, freelance work, or demonstrated professional content creation may be considered toward the experience requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, digital media, journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience managing or producing content for organizational or institutional social media accounts.
  • Experience producing short-form video for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, social media management platforms, or similar tools.
  • Experience with photography and video production.
  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, public-sector, or community-focused communications.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of social media, photography, video, or other digital content.

Responsibilities

  • Create, schedule, and publish social media content across College platforms under the direction of the Social Media Manager.
  • Develop, capture, and edit engaging short-form video, photography, graphics, Stories, Reels, and other platform-specific content while maintaining College brand standards.
  • Identify and capture content from classrooms, labs, events, student activities, workforce training, and other College programs and locations.
  • Draft social media copy and adapt messaging appropriately for different platforms and audiences.
  • Maintain and update the social media content calendar.
  • Support social media campaigns related to enrollment, academic programs, Continuing Education, workforce development, events, student success, and other College initiatives.
  • Monitor College social media channels, including comments, messages, mentions, and tags, and respond or escalate as appropriate.
  • Assist with real-time social media coverage of college events, announcements, and other high-volume periods as needed.
  • Coordinate with faculty, staff, students, and members of the Marketing and Community Relations team to gather information, photos, video, and other content.
  • Edit photos and video for social media use while maintaining College brand standards.
  • Assist with identifying students, employees, alumni, programs, and community partnerships that offer strong storytelling opportunities.
  • Monitor social media trends, emerging platforms, content formats, and audience behaviors and share relevant opportunities with the Social Media Manager.
  • Track basic social media performance metrics and assist with regular reporting and analysis.
  • Maintain organized digital files and archives of social media photos, video, and other content.
  • Support appropriate accessibility practices, including captions, alternative text, and other accessible social media content practices.
  • Follow College policies and applicable requirements related to privacy, permissions, copyright, accessibility, and brand standards.
  • Coordinate the Cape Fear Influencer Program, working directly with student influencers to develop social media content, provide creative direction and feedback, coordinate collaborative projects, monitor participation and deliverables, and ensure student-created content aligns with CFCC’s brand and communications goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
