About The Position

CBC Saskatchewan is looking for a Social Media Editor to guide their social media strategy, focusing on understanding, engaging, and growing younger, diverse audiences. The role involves creating short-form video content for platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts, writing social media posts, headlines, and descriptions, and building connections with the audience to gather story ideas. The ideal candidate is up-to-date on cultural moments and trends, understands the CBC's mandate, and prioritizes the audience's discovery and distribution. This position requires a deep understanding of video production for digital and social storytelling, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to work under deadline pressure. The Social Media Editor will own and execute the social media landscape, including content development, best practices, video production, analytics monitoring, and reporting, adhering to CBC journalistic policies. Advice and guidance are available, but initiative and independent judgment are expected. This role reports to the Senior Digital Producer and is a permanent, full-time, in-office position based in Regina.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience with a background in news on various social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of news presentation on social platforms, including emerging social platforms and trends.
  • Ability to write, edit, package, and publish to social media and CBC owned and operated platforms.
  • Video production and editing experience, with an emphasis on digital video.
  • Expertise in how to best use video, photos, text, and other tools to enhance digital treatments.
  • Comfort on camera and willingness to experiment with video treatment and format.
  • Deep understanding of social analytics and ability to direct social media efforts in response to metrics.
  • Ability to identify which stories resonate with social audiences and the best treatment for each platform.
  • Ability to effectively navigate challenging conversations and trolling.
  • Ability to identify assignment opportunities for social posts and platforms.
  • Thrives in an innovative and creative environment, comfortable with change and uncertainty.
  • Proven track record of community engagement and relationship-building.
  • Understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives, opinions, and experiences.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Three to four years of relevant experience that includes proven knowledge of digital news media and social media distribution.

  • Mine audience connections for story ideas to inform and contribute to journalism.
  • Own and execute the social media landscape through content development, best practices, video production, monitoring analytics and reporting.
  • Adhere to CBC journalistic and programming policies, standards, and practices.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to newsroom staff to build their social media storytelling skills.
  • Spearhead change and act as a newsroom leader regarding digital video.
  • Support CBC staff with their understanding of the importance of social media.
