About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Social Media Coordinator - Boca Raton, FL. The Social Media Coordinator supports the creation, execution, and day-to-day management of engaging digital content that advances institutional storytelling, audience engagement, and strategic communications priorities. Primarily managing the University President’s social media presence, this role collaborates closely with the Assistant Director of Social Media to support university-wide channels and campaigns. The ideal candidate is a creative, trend-aware storyteller with strong multimedia production skills, sharp social media instincts, and the ability to adapt content strategies based on performance insights. The Social Media Coordinator focuses on producing platform-native, audience-centric content that reflects Florida Atlantic’s brand voice and institutional priorities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Strong understanding of social media trends, audience engagement, and short-form content strategies required.
  • Experience with photography, videography, and video editing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar platforms required.
  • Proficiency in major social media platforms and management tools such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite required.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills required.
  • Valid Florida driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, Business, or related field.
  • Experience in higher education, media, athletics, or agency setting.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics, metrics, and performance reporting.
  • Experience supporting executive-level or high-visibility social media accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Create and publish engaging, platform-specific social media content for the President’s accounts across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, and emerging platforms.
  • Capture photo and video content at presidential events, campus activities, student experiences, and key university initiatives.
  • Produce and edit short-form video, photography, graphics, and written content optimized for digital engagement.
  • Support the development of authentic, audience-focused storytelling that aligns with university brand standards and messaging priorities.
  • Manage day-to-day posting, scheduling, and community engagement for presidential social media channels.
  • Monitor comments, messages, and social conversations while escalating sensitive or reputational issues as appropriate.
  • Assist with content planning, editorial calendars, and campaign coordination across institutional accounts.
  • Provide evening and weekend coverage for university events, announcements, and live social media needs as required.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Social Media, Presidential Communications, and University Communications teams to ensure alignment in messaging and content strategy.
  • Support university-wide campaigns and initiatives through coordinated social media execution.
  • Stay current on emerging social media trends, platform updates, and digital storytelling best practices.
  • Track social media performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve engagement and content effectiveness.
  • Assist with reporting and content analysis to inform future storytelling and platform strategies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
