Social Media and Communications Advisor - Term Position

About The Position

The University of Alberta Students’ Union (UASU) is seeking a Social Media & Communications Associate to help shape and define the organization’s communications strategy. This role involves designing social media and communication strategies to engage with a diverse audience of over 37,000 students. The Associate will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and collaborate with the Marketing team and other UASU departments in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment. This is a term position with an end date of April 30, 2027.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in marketing, communications or similar, related field
  • Strong English language, writing, editing and communication skills
  • A thorough understanding of social media tools, trends and capabilities
  • Experience developing content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Linkedin, podcasts, blogs and websites, in a business setting
  • Experience with photography and videography
  • Proven organizational, and project- and time-management abilities
  • High level of resourcefulness, creativity, professionalism and detail orientation
  • Proficiency with software including Google Apps, MS Office, online analytic tools, content management systems, Canva etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Macintosh operating system
  • An understanding of graphic and web design (and related technologies)

Responsibilities

  • Post and curate targeted written and visual content on the UASU’s social media channels
  • Ensure all content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of social media and marketing strategies
  • Assist with monitoring of daily media and news to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for growth
  • Respond to, and/or escalate public comments on various platforms
  • Liaise with the UASU, and with its stakeholders and partners, including University communication teams, community organizations, and donors
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of content calendars for the UASU’s social media channels
  • Stay informed about events on campus, and monitor social media in the University community
  • Be involved in campus events as a participant, and “behind the scenes” where possible
  • Keep up-to-date with changes and trends in social media in order to provide strategic advice to the UASU
  • Analyze and provide data to the marketing team to guide content and campaign decisions.
