About The Position

As a member of the Learning Community Center of South Omaha’s (LCCSO) Family Engagement team, the Social Assistance Navigator connects families across all program sites with vital social services and community resources. This role requires applying professional human services principles and techniques to help participants navigate challenges and improve their overall well-being. Visits participants in their homes and assesses the needs of participants and their families to connect them with community resources. Applies the principles and practices of social work in the performance of assignments such as assessing, developing, and providing direct services or programs to individuals, families, and/or groups. Serves as point of contact for participants who present with any type of abuse or neglect. Conducts screenings and education for participants related to their health and well-being. Updates family’s progress through the database, adding relevant notes, service plans, discharge plans, files, evaluations, visits, etc., in a timely manner. Helps parents overcome any barriers to fully engaging in the program. Uses effective interpersonal skills in working with and receiving referrals from the various teams of the Learning Community Center of South Omaha. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, psychology, sociology, or a related field is required.
  • Competency in using Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, is required.
  • Demonstrated task and detail orientation, completing and documenting visits in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently but still committed to the team function and overall program mission.
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, automobile insurance, and a clean driving record are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and establish relationships with people of diverse populations and backgrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings as required.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work or early childhood education is preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in social services is preferred.
  • Knowledge of social service resources and experience completing needs assessments and evaluations is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Spanish, including written, verbal, and presentation skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate innovative ideas to enhance our social service offerings and to connect larger numbers of participants with supportive resources.
