About The Position

This year-round position engages and manages all seasons of snowmaking. The role requires experience managing people and a passion for mountains and winter. The Snowmaking Supervisor/Technician will be responsible for instructing, directing, assisting, and consulting with crews to ensure safe, effective, and efficient completion of assignments. This includes maintenance and repair of snowmaking equipment and infrastructure, operating snowmaking equipment, and managing snowmaking facilities. The position also involves monitoring weather forecasts, assisting with planning and orientation, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Off-season duties include preventative maintenance, service, calibration, and repairs of snowmaking equipment, assisting with infrastructure expansion, making snow as needed, repairing hydrants, performing minor building maintenance, organizing equipment, and completing work orders.

Requirements

  • 2 years of previous work history/education required
  • Snowmobile certification (may be acquired after hiring)
  • ATV's (may be acquired after hiring) required
  • Interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers and management consistent with Steamboat Ski and Resort Company’s Service Excellence standards
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Communicate clearly in English, both verbal / non-verbal, and written

Responsibilities

  • Instruct, direct, assist, and consult with crews to help them successfully complete assignments safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of all snowmaking equipment and infrastructure.
  • Assist in planning snowmaking field operations.
  • Operate snowmaking equipment, snowmobiles, and snow cats as necessary.
  • Meet, brief, and de-brief snowmaking crews at shift change.
  • Ensure snowmaking facilities are kept clean, organized, and functional.
  • Advocate for snowmaking personnel.
  • Advise superiors of any situations or conditions that might influence the safety, efficiency, or morale of snowmaking employees.
  • Suggest plans and actions to maximize conditions.
  • Process and manage necessary documents, including maintenance records, incident and accident reports, snowmobile and snow cat work orders, and safety suggestions.
  • Ensure snowmaker equipment is assigned to personnel, a record of assignment is kept, and equipment is returned and accounted for.
  • Monitor weather forecasts and conditions to assist in decisions about commencing or ceasing snowmaking operations.
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of the annual snowmaking orientation and help with its presentation.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, as well as any regulatory requirements.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, service, calibration, and repairs of all types of snowmaking equipment (remainder of the year).
  • Assist with any new construction or expansion of snowmaking infrastructure (remainder of the year).
  • Make snow as needed (remainder of the year).
  • Repair air and water hydrants (remainder of the year).
  • Inspect, repair, and/or replace hydrants in the field (remainder of the year).
  • Perform minor building maintenance such as cleaning and painting (remainder of the year).
  • Organize and maintain snowmaker equipment such as hydrant wrenches, helmets, headlights, utility belts, etc. (remainder of the year).
  • Complete work orders and any other paperwork required for assigned work (remainder of the year).
