About The Position

Mid-Atlantic Truck & Equipment is seeking an experienced SMAW / Stick Welder to join their team in Clinton, MD. This role focuses on installing and welding compactors, chutes, balers, and related equipment, with stick welding being the primary focus (100% in the field). You will work alongside the install team on compactor installations and related projects, handling used, dirty, and weathered metal. This is a field-based position that includes a company-provided take-home service van. While welding is the initial focus, there is an opportunity to learn the compactor technician side of the work and grow into that role over time. Experience with electrical troubleshooting or hydraulics is a plus but not required. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work and is eager to expand their skill set.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on SMAW / stick welding and fabrication experience
  • Ability to work with used, dirty, and weathered metal
  • Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn
  • Must have your own tools, including a welding helmet
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable MVR
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices
  • Ability to frequently kneel, bend, squat, push, pull, and reach
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Must be able to get into and out of various vehicles without assistance
  • Comfortable working in small or tight spaces
  • Ability to work with used, dirty, and weathered equipment and materials
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to safely perform the essential functions of the job

Nice To Haves

  • Experience welding on compactors, cans, chutes, balers, or similar equipment
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting or hydraulics

Responsibilities

  • Perform SMAW / stick welding during compactor, chute, baler, and related equipment installations
  • Weld and fabricate on used, dirty, and weathered metal
  • Work alongside the install team to complete quality welding and fabrication work
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
  • Take initiative, work independently, and take pride in the quality of your work
  • Learn additional aspects of compactor equipment over time as you grow into the Compactor Technician role
