SMAW / Stick Welder – Equipment Installation & Repair
About The Position
Mid-Atlantic Truck & Equipment is seeking an experienced welder, fabricator, or skilled tradesperson with strong SMAW / stick welding skills to install and weld compactors, chutes, balers, and related equipment. This is a field-based position where stick welding will be used 100% of the time, working with used, dirty, and weathered metal alongside the install team. The role offers the opportunity to learn the compactor technician side of the work and grow into that role over time. The company provides a take-home service van. This position is ideal for someone confident in their welding abilities who wants to expand their skill set.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on SMAW / stick welding and fabrication experience
- Ability to work with used, dirty, and weathered metal
- Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn
- Must have your own tools, including a welding helmet
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable MVR
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices
- Ability to frequently kneel, bend, squat, push, pull, and reach
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. without assistance
- Must be able to get into and out of various vehicles without assistance
- Comfortable working in small or tight spaces
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to safely perform the essential functions of the job
- Effective communication is necessary to understand and follow safety procedures and instructions, communicate with customers and team members, and complete required job-related documentation.
Nice To Haves
- Experience welding on compactors, cans, chutes, balers, or similar equipment is a plus
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting or hydraulics is a plus, but not required
Responsibilities
- Perform SMAW / stick welding during compactor, chute, baler, and related equipment installations
- Weld and fabricate on used, dirty, and weathered metal
- Work alongside the install team to complete quality welding and fabrication work
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
- Take initiative, work independently, and take pride in the quality of your work
- Learn additional aspects of compactor equipment over time as you grow into the Compactor Technician role
