About The Position

The Smart Facilities Technology Specialist supports technology systems that keep USM facilities secure, connected, and operating efficiently. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with a wide variety of technologies beyond traditional IT, including video surveillance, access control, building communications, smart facility systems, and operational technology. This role serves as the primary technical resource for facility-based technology systems across USM locations, ensuring they are reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs. The ideal candidate enjoys a mix of hands-on technical work, vendor coordination, project implementation, and problem-solving.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience supporting one or more of the following: Video surveillance systems, Access control systems, Low-voltage infrastructure, Building technology systems, Operational technology (OT), Physical security technology platforms
  • Experience working with vendors and contractors.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with platforms such as Avigilon, Genetec, Verkada, Milestone, Lenel, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, PoE, switching, and wireless connectivity.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, industrial, logistics, distribution, or multi-site environments.
  • Familiarity with building automation, lighting controls, environmental monitoring, or smart building technologies.
  • Basic on-the-job training that satisfies the Primary Objectives of the specific position

  • Low-voltage, networking, or security industry certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support enterprise video surveillance systems, recording platforms, and camera infrastructure.
  • Manage electronic access control systems, card readers, credentials, visitor management systems, and door controllers.
  • Support metal detection and facility screening technologies.
  • Maintain paging, speaker, intercom, and facility communication systems.
  • Manage facility-related IoT and connected devices.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and availability.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Coordinate system repairs, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Maintain inventories of facility technology assets.
  • Perform routine system testing and preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with new facility builds, expansions, renovations, and technology deployments.
  • Coordinate with contractors, integrators, and internal stakeholders during system installations.
  • Support technology standardization efforts across multiple locations.
  • Participate in evaluating new smart building technologies and solutions.
  • Work directly with security integrators, low-voltage contractors, and equipment vendors.
  • Schedule maintenance activities and service calls.
  • Track project progress and ensure vendor deliverables are met.
  • Maintain system diagrams, configurations, and support documentation.
  • Ensure facility technology systems comply with company cybersecurity standards.
  • Assist with audits and technology lifecycle planning.
  • Document incidents, changes, and system improvements.
