As a key member of the Service team, the COOP Student Small Engines Mechanic plays a vital role in keeping our rental fleet and customer equipment operating safely, reliably, and effectively.

Requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting and repair skills with 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Small Engines Technician or similar role.
  • Experience working on 2-stroke and 4-stroke gas engines, construction heaters (propane and natural gas), small electrical tools, forklifts, aerial lifts and Stihl products.
  • Excellent communication skills and a knack for making customers feel valued.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting regularly up to 50lbs.
  • A strong commitment to safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and Battlefield’s health and safety policies.
  • Flexibility to support on-call schedules and adapt to business demands.
  • Hydraulic system knowledge.
  • Ownership of personal tools is required for the role.

Nice To Haves

  • A technical understanding of CAT equipment.
  • A Licensed Small Engine Technician (Preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair defective small engines on rental equipment.
  • Diagnose, service, and maintain QA rental equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair customer-owned tools and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on both fleet and customer equipment.
  • Maintain and service small-engine-related equipment.
  • Load and unload customer rental equipment and clearly explain operating instructions as required.
  • Maintain the yard and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
  • Support branch operations by performing additional duties as assigned.
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure timely repairs and service delivery.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with your colleagues to create a supportive and efficient work environment.
  • Follow all workplace safety protocols and environmentally sound practices, making sure everyone stays safe.
