About The Position

The Greenridge Group is seeking a qualified Small Business Specialist to support the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Facilities Services Division. This position will focus on small-business outreach, workforce development, contractor engagement, apprenticeship programs, and community partnerships related to LAUSD’s school construction and procurement programs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with contractors, community-based organizations, trade unions, workforce-development programs, and diverse community stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of professional experience in a public or private organization involving work such as: Performing field work for community-based organizations.
  • Coordinating with contractors in small-business workforce development.
  • Supporting pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship training programs.
  • Addressing state-mandated apprenticeship placement and compliance requirements.
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Public administration, Business administration, or A related field.
  • Candidates who do not possess the specified degree may substitute qualifying experience on a year-for-year basis for up to two years.
  • Knowledge or experience in Pre-apprenticeship and state-governed apprenticeship programs.
  • Knowledge or experience in Entrance requirements and procedures for local trade-union apprenticeship programs.
  • Knowledge or experience in Workforce-development resources and services.
  • Knowledge or experience in Potential barriers to employment.
  • Knowledge or experience in Laws, regulations, and codes related to small-business programs and apprenticeship employment.
  • Knowledge or experience in Construction and goods and services industries.
  • Knowledge or experience in Small-business certification and procurement processes.
  • Knowledge or experience in Compliance, collaboration, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Knowledge or experience in Preparing presentations, written reports, calendars, and promotional materials.
  • Knowledge or experience in Gathering and organizing information from multiple sources.
  • Knowledge or experience in Working effectively with diverse community and business groups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Careful attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing, marketing, and conducting seminars and symposiums for contractors, architects, engineers, construction-management professionals, and goods and service providers.
  • Help small businesses increase their competitiveness and participation in LAUSD contracting and procurement opportunities.
  • Provide information regarding LAUSD procurement policies and procedures to District personnel, community groups, business and trade organizations, educational agencies, and members of the public.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, subcontractors, and local trade unions to support job placement and apprenticeship enrollment for graduates of LAUSD’s “We Build” Program.
  • Monitor “We Build” training programs by reviewing trainee evaluations, skills development, training tracks, and attendance records.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with District representatives, small businesses, trade unions, community and faith-based organizations, and local agencies.
  • Support the participation of “We Build” students and graduates in LAUSD’s school construction and procurement programs.
  • Refer program participants to appropriate social-service programs and agencies when needed.
  • Represent LAUSD’s Small Business Enterprise program at community events and meetings.
  • Provide information about eligibility requirements, training programs, business and contracting opportunities, and construction career opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a master calendar for LAUSD’s Small Business and Contractor Academy programs.
  • Assist small businesses with navigating certification processes and obtaining information about upcoming bidding opportunities.
  • Prepare information and written reports for presentations to the Board of Education, Bond Oversight Committee, and other audiences.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
