The Sleep Technologist in an acute care hospital setting works under the general supervision of the Sleep Department Coordinator and Medical Director, and the direct supervision of the Director of Cardiopulmonary Services. This role is responsible for the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders through in-center and home-based testing. The Sleep Technologist performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, monitors and analyzes sleep data, implements appropriate interventions, and provides direct patient care and education. In the acute care environment, the technologist must demonstrate strong clinical judgment, the ability to respond to patient needs, and adherence to hospital protocols. The Sleep Technologist may perform all duties of a Sleep Technician and must be credentialed (or eligible) in sleep technology, hold active licensure as a Respiratory Therapist, and/or work under the supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST).
