Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • One year of sleep medicine, respiratory care, pulmonary diagnostics, or related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HST, PSG, PAP therapy, EMR systems, and patient education Required.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Required sleep medicine continuing education must be maintained.
  • AASM-accredited laboratory experience.
  • Athena or comparable EMR experience.
  • Experience supporting virtual sleep medicine and DME workflows.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and clinical judgment to identify technical issues, inadequate studies, or patient safety concerns during HST and in-lab PSG testing requiring escalation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients regarding HST and in-lab equipment use, testing instructions, and troubleshooting.
  • Technical proficiency with HST devices, in-lab PSG equipment, PAP titration, and EMR documentation and scoring software.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to coordinate HST scheduling, in-lab study support, and equipment readiness.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with providers, the Manager, Sleep Lab, billing staff, and DME vendors on device- and coverage-related issues.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, including participation in quality assurance audits and process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent customer service skills in interactions with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Personal accountability for maintaining current certifications and required sleep medicine continuing education.
  • Ability to uphold HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of infection control and OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards when handling, disinfecting, and redeploying sleep testing equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Respiratory Care or a healthcare field preferred.
  • RPSGT, CPSGT, RST, CRT/RRT, or equivalent sleep medicine credential preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the home sleep testing (HST) workflow from provider order through completion.
  • Verify orders, insurance benefits, prior authorization, and scheduling.
  • Provide patient education and equipment instruction.
  • Prepare, issue, disinfect, maintain, troubleshoot, and inventory sleep testing equipment.
  • Download studies, review technical quality per AASM scoring guidelines, and prepare studies for physician interpretation.
  • Support CPAP/APAP/BiPAP education and follow-up.
  • Assist with in-lab PSG, PAP titration, MSLT, and MWT when applicable.
  • Monitor patients during in-lab sleep studies and respond to technical or clinical issues in real time.
  • Identify inadequate or failed studies and coordinate repeat testing with the ordering provider.
  • Maintain HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention, and AASM standards.
  • Complete accurate and timely EMR documentation.
  • Participate in QA audits and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain BLS certification and required sleep medicine continuing education.
  • Identify and report safety events, equipment malfunctions, or adverse patient reactions in accordance with facility policy.
  • Coordinate with providers, billing, DME vendors, and referral sources.
  • Support tele-sleep workflows and operational initiatives.
  • Monitor supplies and recommend process improvements.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Escalate complex scheduling, equipment, or patient-care issues to the Manager, Sleep Lab or Sleep Medical Director as appropriate
