About The Position

Waters & Sims, a member of the Merakey family of companies, is seeking a full-time Skills Trainer to join its Supported Employment Services team in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The role supports students with disabilities as they prepare for future employment by helping them identify realistic employment goals, build transferable skills, and access meaningful learning opportunities in the community. Working with DVR counselors, schools, families, employers, and the Program Coordinator, the Skills Trainer delivers individualized transition support and promotes students’ independence and competitive employment prospects. The position provides structured instruction in five areas: job exploration, work-based learning experiences, post-secondary education counseling, workplace readiness, and self-advocacy. It also involves conducting intakes and assessments, supporting students’ access to resources, maintaining a caseload and required billable hours, and completing accurate documentation and reports. The schedule is 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Compensation is $22.12 per hour, plus mileage reimbursement.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, psychology, or a related field.
Active driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence when working with employers, students, parents, schools, and systems.
Strong organization and time-management skills to manage training modules, services, and documentation.
Proficiency with email, virtual communication platforms, and team-based coordination tools.
Flexibility to adapt to changing workplace conditions, service logistics, and procedural updates.
Ability to develop student-aligned goals, manage employment logistics, and coordinate interactions among multiple stakeholders.
Strong crisis-management and problem-solving skills are preferred, including the ability to anticipate and address student or internship-site challenges.

Responsibilities

Complete NJ Pre-Service training and professional development as scheduled, and complete required new-hire training within 60 days of hire and as requested by management.
Support each student’s Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) process in collaboration with DVR and school personnel to identify appropriate, realistic employment goals.
Conduct intakes and assessments for assigned students to determine service needs and readiness.
Deliver the five required Pre-Employment Transition Services components: job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, counseling on post-secondary education options, workplace readiness training, and self-advocacy instruction.
Help students access resources and services that support employment success, such as technology, clothing, and tutoring.
Create and maintain a daily calendar that prioritizes consumer services and reflects caseload needs, appointments, and agency expectations.
Maintain an average of 31 billable hours per week through direct service provision.
Collaborate regularly with the Program Coordinator on caseload management and service quality.
Communicate professionally and respectfully with DVR counselors, school representatives, employers, and families.
Complete daily documentation in SETWorks, including progress notes and relevant service details.
Submit timely and accurate Monthly Activity Reports as required by funders upon completion of each student’s authorized hours.
