About The Position

This full-time instructional position will meet the emerging needs for skilled trade employees, both in short-term and more advanced skilled trades. This faculty position will work with various aspects of developing and implementing skilled trades training, including Heavy Equipment Operator, Carpentry, Plumbing, and related training. This position may also be expected to instruct as part of the Building Systems Technician program and HVAC training, as available and qualified. This faculty team member will prepare students for careers for many local and regional employers. Opportunities and responsibilities include recruitment and retention, teaching, customized curriculum development and instructional design, and assessing student learning. Opportunities for continued technical professional development exist. This position will operate at all three campuses. Incumbent must be willing to instruct in Morgan County and at the Technology Center. This position will include managing a virtual office as needed.

Requirements

  • Associates degree is preferred; however, candidates with considerable industry experience combined with the willingness to teach will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience teaching at the secondary and/or college level is desirable, or experience conducting training in the Skilled Trades.
  • At least 5 years in the Skilled Trades workforce is preferred.
  • OSHA certification and/or willingness to obtain OSHA instructor certification.
  • Computer skills required
  • Excellent written and verbal skills required
  • Must be able to work with a diverse team
  • Must have physical ability to demonstrate skills and techniques to students in the classroom
  • Must be able to work in different College site locations and employer site locations
  • Must be able to work a variety of day or evening hours, as needed
  • Any skilled trades and/ OSHA construction certifications will be considered.
  • Must have an active driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching at the secondary and/or college level is desirable, or experience conducting training in the Skilled Trades.

Responsibilities

  • Assess technical skill needs in the areas of Skilled Trades and related training.
  • Design and deliver training in direct response to local labor market needs.
  • Teach in degree programs or career advancement short programs as assigned and in collaboration with other faculty.
  • Demonstrate skills and techniques used in the Skilled Trades.
  • Provide training and consulting for workforce initiatives for public and corporate partners.
  • Recommend and participate in marketing events and campaigns to promote degrees, short-term courses, and job placement.
  • Arrange and attend high school and other recruiting events.
  • Responsible for meeting enrollment goals for the program
  • Organize the program advisory board, and with the Dean, meet with the program advisory board twice a year.
  • Performs any other duties to drive the College’s Vision, to fulfil the College’s Mission, and to abide by the College’s Values
  • Participate in industry recognized certification training to continually upgrade technical skills.
  • Travel for professional development and/or training assignments.
  • Provide advisory assistance for current students and assist instructors with student advising
  • Support effective communication between department leadership and department staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
