About The Position

The Skilled Maintenance Mechanic works at the Kemps Ice Cream plant, a subsidiary of Dairy Farmers of America (DFA). The role requires the ability to work independently and be recognized by peers and production leaders as a competent mechanic with effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. The mechanic understands the importance of equipment run time, demonstrates urgency, and supports plant operations through equipment and critical plant systems maintenance. The position also involves understanding refrigeration systems, including ammonia system requirements, operation, and safe procedures.

The schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The stated wage is $34.05 per hour at the full-scale 2nd Class level; class is based on skills and knowledge.

Requirements

• Completion of a BUM course, equivalent training, or 3 years of maintenance experience.
• Basic competency in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Basic PC skills, including Excel, Word, and other programs as required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills within a cross-functional team.
• Understanding of refrigeration and ammonia system requirements, operation, and safe procedures.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance needs, work-order and PM systems, and maintenance prioritization.

Responsibilities

• Understand refrigeration and demonstrate knowledge of ammonia system requirements, operation, and safe procedures.
• Identify preventative maintenance needs and use work-order and PM systems.
• Prioritize maintenance work to support plant operation.
