About The Position

The Skilled Maintenance Mechanic works at the Kemps Ice Cream plant, a subsidiary of Dairy Farmers of America (DFA). The mechanic is expected to work independently and be recognized by peers and production leaders as competent, with effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. The role requires an understanding of equipment runtime and a sense of urgency in supporting plant operations. The mechanic works with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and refrigeration systems, including ammonia systems, and supports preventive maintenance and work-order processes.

Requirements

• Completion of a BUM course, equivalent training, or 3 years of maintenance experience.
• Basic competency in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Understanding of refrigeration and ammonia systems, including operating requirements and safe procedures.
• Proficiency in basic PC skills, including Excel, Word, and other programs as required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of preventive maintenance needs, work-order systems, and PM systems.

Responsibilities

• Work without supervision.
• Troubleshoot equipment and apply effective problem-solving skills.
• Support equipment runtime and plant operations with a sense of urgency.
• Understand critical plant systems and enable or disable them as needed.
• Follow ammonia system requirements, operating practices, and safety procedures.
• Identify preventive maintenance needs and use work-order and PM systems, prioritizing work for plant operations.
• Communicate orally and in writing with a cross-functional team.
