About The Position

The Skill Instructor will be responsible for facilitating skill development programs for assigned participants, including instruction, assistance, prompting, and documentation. This role involves actively engaging participants in meaningful day activities, community inclusion trips, and routine activities. The instructor will also ensure that outlined processes and timelines are met for paid vocational skill training, including assisting with contract work and performing quality assurance. Additionally, the position requires implementing personal care, meal, and behavior service protocols, providing care for participants' daily living needs, and maintaining a safe working environment through housekeeping duties and hazard reporting. The role may also require reporting to work during inclement weather and potentially sheltering in place during a hurricane.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (required)
  • 18 years of age of older (required)
  • Read, write and comprehend English with the ability to remain calm and communicate during a crisis (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Valid FL Driver’s License with no major driving violations at all times (preferred)
  • Previous working knowledge utilizing basic office equipment (computer, copier, tablet, calculator, etc.) (preferred)
  • Hoyer lift, van lift, and adaptive equipment (wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, etc.) (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Drive large capacity vehicles to provide transportation to program participants to/from training center and community outings.
  • Administer prescribed medications, monitor self-administrations of medications, follow protocol for disposal of medications, maintain medication count and communicate with pharmacy as needed.
  • Facilitate skill development programs for assigned participants including required instruction, assistance, prompting and documentation.
  • Actively participate in ideas, suggestions and feedback on assigned skill development programs.
  • Actively facilitate, assist and encourage program participants to participate and engage in meaningful day activities (i.e., Art, Fitness, Social, Adult Education), community inclusion trips and other routine activities in program schedule through own involvement and participation.

  • Ensure outlined processes and timelines are met in relation to paid vocational skill training, including assisting in contract work, performing quality assurance for contract work, loading/unloading of contract work, etc.
  • Implement personal care, meal and behavior service protocols as outlined by facility and provide care for program participants, including activities of daily living (personal hygiene needs, toileting, mealtime assistance and repositioning).
  • Facilitate safe working environment through performing routine housekeeping duties, reporting of potential hazards, and consistently maintaining assigned facility/area in safe and clean manner.
  • Report to work during inclement weather to ensure adequate supervision and care of all individuals in the home. This may include sheltering in place during a hurricane.
