About The Position

This role involves instructing skating lessons for various age groups, developing lesson plans, and ensuring a safe and fun environment for all participants. The instructor will also be responsible for administrative tasks such as attendance tracking and participant evaluations, as well as risk management duties including maintaining safety checklists and equipment. Additionally, the position requires assisting with program promotion and adhering to the company's health and wellness philosophy. The role demands proficiency in skating, the ability to lead groups, and strong communication and organizational skills. It is a seasonal, part-time position with various shifts available, requiring training prior to the start of lessons. Remote work is not available.

Requirements

  • Proficient skating ability and able to demonstrate and instruct skating skills.
  • Ability to lead large groups.
  • Previous experience in teaching learn to skate programs.
  • Takes initiative and can work independently.
  • Update and maintain technical skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced noisy environment.
  • Ability to work in a cold environment.
  • Ability to skate on ice for entirety of shift.
  • Ability to lift 20-25 lbs on a daily basis.
  • Must hold high ethical standards as they are working with a vulnerable population and has access to confidential information.
  • Current CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid.
  • All applicants must be a minimum 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of skating/hockey instruction experience.

Nice To Haves

  • High 5 is considered an asset.
  • CanSkate/NCCP Certification or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, lead, and instruct skating lessons for children 3-6Y, 6-12Y, and/or 13Y+.
  • Develop lesson plans based on pre-set goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate set-up and take-down, as well as general maintenance of equipment and the facility.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants involved in the program.
  • Be aware of emergency procedures (risk management).
  • Mentor Youth Volunteers and Leaders in Training.
  • Provide a safe, fun and quality environment for all participants.
  • Take daily attendance of program participants.
  • Prepare lesson plans for each program.
  • Complete evaluations and report cards for each participant.
  • Attend any staff meetings/additional training.
  • Answer any public inquiries and/or complaints.
  • Administrative duties as required such as maintaining written records and reports.
  • Complete Incident Report Forms and safety checklists as required.
  • Maintain activity areas to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Ensure consent forms have been signed for appropriate programs.
  • Maintain equipment to be in good working order.
  • Ensure participants, staff, and volunteers are wearing appropriate skating attire and safety equipment.
  • Perform First Aid as required.
  • Assist in promotion of Westside programs.
  • Assist in promotion of health and wellness philosophy of Westside.
