About The Position

The Skate Patroller/Ticket Taker is responsible for providing a positive and fun environment for participants while ensuring that safety policies and procedures are implemented. In addition, Skate Patrol Attendants will respond effectively to any first aid situations that may arise.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 14 years old
  • Experience working in a recreational setting as well as excellent ice skating abilities
  • Direct experience in implementing safety rules and regulations and the ability to ensure a positive and fun skating experience for participants is required
  • Required to provide and wear a CSA approved hockey helmet
  • Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills are mandatory
  • Candidates must possess a demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a team environment as well as to work independently
  • Previous work/volunteer experience with good references
  • Cash handling experience
  • Demonstrated skating ability
  • Current Emergency First Aid
  • Must be able to exercise good judgment
  • Applicants must be prepared to provide a Police Record Check at their own expense before being employed by the Town of Gravenhurst

Responsibilities

  • Be presentable in appearance at all times while on duty in designated uniform.
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled skating time.
  • Carry a whistle at all times to control excessive rowdiness on the ice.
  • Enforce posted skating rules promptly and tactfully.
  • Watch for horseplay, tag and racing. Do not allow figure skating spins, jumps etc. The pace of public skating is set by the speed of the average skater. Do not allow patrons to stand around the boards at the edge of the ice. If they wish to chat, they should move to the middle or leave the ice surface.
  • When patrolling the ice surface, ice patrols should not skate together.
  • Clear the ice of patrons at the end of skating to ensure that they do not remain on the ice during flooding.
  • All doors leading to the ice surface must be closed at the end of the skating time.
  • Are mature and responsible individual willing and able to enforce on ice rules & maintain safety while on shift.
  • Must be willing to wear a Skate Patrol Jacket or Vest, while on duty.
  • Collect admission and reconcile in accordance to established cash handling policy.
  • Shall perform other duties as assigned.
