About The Position

The Sheridan School District is seeking a dedicated Sixth Grade Science/Social Studies Teacher. This position involves a minimum 190-day contract, with potential for additional days based on assignment or responsibilities. The role is FLSA EXEMPT and includes 10 days of sick leave and 3 days of personal leave per year of employment. Salary is determined by the district's schedule based on education and experience.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate major or course of study from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Arkansas teaching license for the grade level or subject area assigned.
• Pass all required criminal background checks at personal expense.
• Meet Highly Qualified Teacher designation requirements if applicable to the teaching assignment.
• Ability to perform duties while following district policies as well as state and federal regulations, guidelines, and laws.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret printed instructions, professional journal handbooks, bulletins, announcements, etc.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and work cooperatively with students, peers, and parents.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions or instructions.
• Demonstrate skill in written and oral communication, which could include effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of students, administrators, staff, and the general public.
• Demonstrate adequate computer skills, including Internet research, data entry, grade reports, etc.

Responsibilities

• Direct the learning experiences of the students to meet planned instructional objectives.
• Teach district approved curriculum based on guidelines established by the school district, state frameworks, and federal regulations.
• Prepare for assigned classes by developing lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques using instructional media when available and appropriate.
• Evaluate pupils’ academic growth through various assessment methods and keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
• Identify pupil needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies to support students with an IEP or any other type of needed accommodation.
• Make modifications for G/T, ELL, LD, physically impaired, at-risk, and other needs of individual students, including their learning styles.
• Collaborate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
• Assist in the selection of learning materials, equipment, or other instructional material.
• Develop and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment conducive to effective learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Maintain accurate, complete records as required by district policy or law.
• Be responsible for supervising the proper use of learning materials, equipment, or other instructional material.
• Be available to students and parents for education related purposes during the instructional day and extended hours when necessary.
• Take reasonable measures to maintain a safe and orderly environment to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct.
• Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings, and professional development activities.
• Communicate regularly with various internal and external publics to develop and maintain a positive school/community relationship.
• Support and attend extra-curricular activities when possible (i.e. PTA/PTO, sporting and cultural events).
• Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality.
• Maintain high moral values both in principle and example by following state and local laws, rules, guidelines and standards.
• Strictly follow the Arkansas Code of Ethics for Educators.
• Maintain and improve professional competence.
• Follow and implement all district policies as well as state and federal law or guidelines.
• Accept and respond to supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
