Site Reliability Engineer

SAIC•Camp Smith, HI
•Onsite

About The Position

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Site Reliability Engineer to support the mission-critical Joint Fires Network (JFN), which enables integration of joint planning, targeting, precision strikes, and communications. The engineer will ensure the reliability, scalability, performance, and operational availability of JFN and related experimentation environments. The role uses performance metrics, dashboards, monitoring, and automation to assess system health, identify trends, resolve potential issues, and improve operational efficiency. This position is on-site at Camp Smith, Hawaii. The role supports operational and experimentation architectures, including infrastructure, networks, software baselines, and CI/CD systems. It covers the lifecycle from system inception through incident resolution, and includes incident leadership, root-cause analysis, DevSecOps improvements, infrastructure automation, performance optimization, and communications with program stakeholders. The engineer also prepares reports and presentations, collaborates with technical teams, and tracks developments in relevant technologies. SAIC is a mission integrator serving defense, space, intelligence, and civilian markets. The company reports approximately 23,000 employees and annual revenues of approximately $7.3 billion. The position requires U.S. citizenship, an active TS/SCI clearance, and IAT Level II certification. The target salary range is $120,001–$160,000, depending on experience and other factors.

  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in computer science, networking, and information technology, including systems engineering, DevSecOps, and application lifecycle management.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • IAT Level II certification.
  • Experience designing and implementing governance processes for engineering environments.
  • Experience building and maintaining dashboards, alerting, and monitoring solutions that provide real-time and historical observability into system health.
  • Strong Linux/Unix and Windows systems administration experience in virtualized and cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and deployment automation tools.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate with application providers.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, including experience reporting project status to leadership.
  • Understanding of business and technical alignment in support of organizational goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with tools such as Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, and Jenkins.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and with hybrid-cloud deployment strategies.
  • Proficiency with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools such as Alloy, Blackbox Exporter, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK Stack.
  • Familiarity with modern IT frameworks and methodologies such as Agile and ITIL.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure maximum availability, stability, and health of operational systems and program resources supporting operations, experimentation, development, and testing.
  • Support the JFN MLS operational architecture, including nodes, hub, network, software baseline, and CI/CD apparatus such as an IL-7 cloud.
  • Support the JMIE MLS experimentation architecture, including labs, systems, network, software baseline, and CI/CD apparatus such as an IL-5 cloud.
  • Maintain availability and reliability from the infrastructure layer through the application layer, from system inception to incident resolution.
  • Monitor system health proactively, analyze trends, and predict system behavior to reduce downtime and latency.
  • Serve as the escalation point during incidents, lead troubleshooting, and conduct root-cause analysis to reduce mean time to recovery.
  • Establish and improve engineering processes and tools that provide system status using platform-, data-, and application-layer logging.
  • Establish standard operating procedures for using CI/CD pipelines and automated testing tools to audit, verify, update, patch, and manage systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and automate repetitive processes to reduce manual operational verification and validation of critical capabilities.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code to simplify provisioning, scaling, and fault recovery for JFN environments.
  • Establish a communications plan to keep stakeholders and program leadership informed about system status.
  • Identify deficiencies in DevSecOps workflows and design solutions to support technical operations.
  • Conduct performance profiling, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations.
  • Collaborate with helpdesk staff, network engineers, and system integrators on escalation and incident-response best practices.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations and share findings with stakeholders.
  • Stay current with advancements in automated testing, distributed databases, software-defined networking, container orchestration, and DevSecOps.
