About The Position

MHK is hiring a technically savvy Site Reliability Engineer to improve the reliability, availability, scalability, and performance of its healthcare technology platforms. The role focuses on keeping production systems healthy and resilient, improving system reliability, establishing and maintaining service-level objectives, responding to and leading production incidents, identifying systemic causes of failures, and building automation to eliminate repetitive operational work. The engineer will address complex production challenges using expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, automation, observability, and data-driven analysis. This hybrid role is based in Tampa, Florida, and requires working in the office three days per week. Prospective employees must pass a background check and drug screening.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Strong understanding of SRE principles, including SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, error budgets, reliability metrics, service ownership, resilience engineering, and disaster recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting production applications and infrastructure in high-availability environments.
  • Hands-on experience supporting, troubleshooting, and improving AWS cloud environments, including compute, networking, storage, IAM, DNS, load balancing, databases, and related services.
  • Experience leading production incident response; troubleshooting issues across applications, infrastructure, databases, networking, and cloud services; and completing root-cause analyses, post-incident reviews, and corrective actions.
  • Strong knowledge of observability practices, including monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, application performance monitoring, distributed tracing, and service health analysis.
  • Strong Linux systems administration, networking, performance optimization, capacity planning, and reliability troubleshooting skills, including TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, firewalls, and VPC networking.
  • Ability to develop automation using Python, Bash, or similar tools; reduce operational toil; communicate complex technical issues clearly; and collaborate effectively with Engineering, QA, Infrastructure, Security, Product, and technical leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Relevant professional experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a closely related discipline, including supporting high-volume Java applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications related to AWS, cloud engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or related technical disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, and observability solutions to improve visibility into application and infrastructure health.
  • Lead and participate in production incident response, diagnose complex issues, coordinate recovery, conduct root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions through completion.
  • Identify repetitive and error-prone operational work and develop automation using Python, Bash, or similar tools to reduce manual intervention and operational toil.
  • Analyze system performance, capacity, latency, error rates, resource utilization, and scaling requirements; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and reliability risks.
  • Identify single points of failure, evaluate system dependencies and failure modes, and develop strategies to improve high availability, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and system resilience.
  • Support and improve the reliability of AWS production environments, including networking, storage, IAM, DNS, load balancing, databases, and related cloud services.
  • Partner with Engineering and QA to establish production-readiness standards, deployment safeguards, health checks, rollback strategies, and operational validation for production changes.
  • Develop and maintain runbooks, troubleshooting guides, service documentation, escalation procedures, and incident response processes.
