About The Position

Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), part of Apple’s IS&T organization, delivers global-scale platforms and services that support Apple operations. The Insight team operates a multi-petabyte, highly available Big Data ecosystem supporting manufacturing operations for Apple products worldwide. Apple is establishing a new EMEA operational team in Cork to extend its global operations and contribute to how Insight operates at scale. As one of the first Site Reliability Engineers on the Cork team, you will help shape its working practices, technical standards, and contribution to Apple’s manufacturing infrastructure. You will operate and improve services in a rapidly growing, highly available Big Data ecosystem supporting exabyte-level data. The role focuses on reliability, performance, and scalability, with a build-to-manage approach spanning design, deployment, and ongoing operations. You will also advance AIOps, observability, automation, incident response, and infrastructure-as-code practices while collaborating with global engineering teams and supporting the growth of the regional team.

Requirements

  • Experience in SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering.
  • Strong Linux systems skills, including systems-level troubleshooting of processes, networking, file systems, and performance.
  • Programming and automation experience in Python, Go, or Bash.
  • Practical exposure to AI/ML applied to IT operations, such as anomaly detection, intelligent alerting, or LLM-driven tooling.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
  • Practical experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration and deployments, and CI/CD pipeline tools such as ArgoCD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar.
  • Solid networking fundamentals, including HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, and traffic flows through distributed systems.
  • Practical application of SRE principles, including error budgets, SLOs, SLIs, and toil measurement and reduction.
  • Production experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI and microservice architectures.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline; equivalent professional experience will be fully considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Contributions to open-source projects are a meaningful signal.

Responsibilities

  • Own the reliability, performance, and scalability of services and infrastructure within the Insight ecosystem, applying a build-to-manage mindset to design, deployment, and ongoing operations.
  • Build and advance AIOps capabilities, including ML-driven alerting, anomaly detection, LLM-assisted operational tooling, and automated incident triage.
  • Instrument services with dashboards, meaningful alerts, runbooks, and clearly defined SLOs and SLIs.
  • Drive automation to reduce operational toil and improve ecosystem stability; success measures include uptime, release quality, toil reduction, and advancement of SRE practice.
  • Partner with incident management on incident response and post-incident reviews, and translate findings into architectural and operational improvements that prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code practices and platform architecture decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams across Apple’s global manufacturing services, communicating across time zones and cultures.
  • Help define the culture, working practices, and technical standards of the new EMEA operational team.
  • Build in-region relationships with business partners and represent the team’s perspective within the wider Insight organization.
  • Mentor and support team members as the Cork operational team grows.
