Site Reliability Engineer - Career

Equifax•Alpharetta, GA

About The Position

Equifax’s Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) discipline combines software and systems engineering to build and operate large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SREs help ensure internal and external services meet reliability and performance expectations while adhering to Equifax engineering principles. The role focuses on engineering solutions to operational problems, maintaining overall system operation, and preventing potential outages through proactive practices, limited operational toil, and blameless postmortems. Equifax describes its SRE culture as collaborative, diverse, curious, open, and blame-free, with opportunities for self-directed work, support, and mentorship. The Site Reliability Engineer manages uptime across cloud-native and hybrid architectures; builds infrastructure-as-code patterns, CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment tooling, and detailed runbooks; and troubleshoots complex distributed systems. The position participates in on-call response for high-severity application incidents, improves runbooks to reduce mean time to recovery (MTTR), and leads blameless availability postmortems with ownership of actions to prevent recurrence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding, such as physics or mathematics, or equivalent job experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience in software engineering, systems administration, database administration, and networking.
  • At least 2 years of experience developing and/or administering software in a public cloud.
  • Experience monitoring infrastructure and application uptime and availability to meet functional and performance objectives.
  • Experience with one or more of Python, Bash, Java, Go, JavaScript, or Node.js.
  • Cross-functional knowledge of systems, storage, networking, security, and databases.
  • System administration skills, including automation and orchestration of Linux and/or Windows using Terraform, Chef, Ansible, and/or containers such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency with continuous integration and continuous delivery tooling and practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor complex messages to specific audiences.
  • Methodical troubleshooting skills, including investigating and resolving issues, determining remedies, coordinating implementation, and analyzing patterns and trends.

Nice To Haves

  • Cloud certification is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in DevSecOps, operational excellence, systems thinking, technical communication and presentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience applying SRE standards and tools, designing and documenting complex programs or scripts, and contributing to selection of software development methods, tools, and techniques.
  • Ability to develop work plans for moderately complex short-term assignments, monitor systems against availability metrics, and identify ways to improve processes.
  • Ability to understand technology trends and system integrations, communicate impacts to stakeholders, and collaborate to resolve conflict.

Responsibilities

  • Manage system uptime across cloud-native AWS and GCP environments and hybrid architectures.
  • Build infrastructure-as-code patterns that meet security and engineering standards using tools such as Terraform, cloud CLI scripting, and cloud SDKs.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines for application and cloud architecture build, test, and deployment using Jenkins and cloud-native toolchains.
  • Build automated tooling to deploy service requests and push changes into production.
  • Create comprehensive, detailed runbooks to detect, remediate, and restore services.
  • Solve problems and triage complex distributed-architecture service maps.
  • Participate in on-call response for high-severity application incidents and improve runbooks to reduce MTTR.
  • Lead availability blameless postmortems and own corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor infrastructure and application uptime and availability against functional and performance objectives.
  • Apply SRE and DevSecOps practices to improve service resilience, and participate in reviews of work.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive compensation and healthcare packages.
  • 401(k) matching.
  • Paid time off.
  • Organizational growth potential through an online learning platform with guided career tracks.
