About The Position

This position is for the new 26-27 school year effective 7/1/26. Under general supervision of the Regional Site Director/Site Director, delivers high quality Early Childhood Development services to children enrolled in site programs, including educational, social, physical, nutritional, and psychological development of children under their care. Communicates with parents on their child’s individual progress and maintains records of attendance and educational achievement. Plans lessons, serves meals, and ensures a healthy and safe learning environment for children. Holds the experience and credentials required for the �Center Director� for California Community Care Licensing (CCLD) requirements, in the absence of the Regional Site Director (RSD) or Site Director (SD).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in early childhood education, child development, Social Science, or related field is required.
  • Valid and current Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or higher.
  • Must obtain total of (6) units of infant and toddler development but (3) semester units must be presented at hire and (3) units may be completed within the first year of employment.
  • Three (3) or more years as a paid teacher in a licensed child care center serving children under 5 years old is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, and to plan and implement learning experiences that: Ensure effective curriculum planning and implementation based upon individual children’s development continuum and integrate child assessment data in individual and group planning.
  • Promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate.
  • Include developmentally appropriate learning experiences in language, literacy, social and emotional development, math, science, social studies, creative arts, and physical development that are focused on achieving progress outlined in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five .
  • Establish and maintain a healthy learning environment; and Encourage families’ engagement with their children in all Head Start programs to support the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills, written/oral communication and observation skills.
  • Requires strong time management skills.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Current Adult & Pediatric CPR/1 St Aid Certificate
  • Reliable transportation to get to assigned work location in accordance with assigned working hours
  • Must pass the following background checks prior to start of employment: Sex Offender Registry, Child Abuse and Neglect State Registry, State or Tribal Criminal History Check, including fingerprints, FBI Criminal History Check, including fingerprints
  • Must have verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment, to be renewed every four (4) years (every 4 years for chest x-rays).
  • Must pass health screening (LIC 503) at time of employment, health screening is accepted within one year prior to hire, to be renewed every four (4) years.
  • Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), and Influenza.
  • Must complete 15 clock hours of professional development annually that builds the knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities of staff to improve child, family, and staff outcomes. Of this, a minimum of 50% of the 15 hours (or 7.5 hours) must be focused on the specific content area or job assignment.
  • Must also complete an annual Professional Development Plan (PDP) to be reviewed 3 times during the year.
  • Must obtain 21 hours/year of professional development (105 hours every five years) to maintain their teaching certification.
  • The physical environment the incumbent will work in is typically a pre-school environment with moderate noise levels that would be expected in that type of work environment.
  • Outdoor and indoor supervision of playgrounds / workplace for on-going periods occurs regularly.
  • Lift and carry up to 45 lbs. or more.
  • The individual must be able to work with children at their eye level and always maintain visual supervision of children, as well as hear, communicate, and comprehend effectively with children, staff, and parents.
  • The individual also must be able to walk, sit, kneel, crawl, carry, push, pull and participate in activities indoors and outdoors as needed in an environment with children and adults .
  • T.B. Test within the past six months prior to employment, and every four (4) years thereafter (every 4 years for a chest X-ray).
  • Must pass health screening (LIC 503) at time of employment, health screening is accepted within one year prior to hire, to be renewed every four (4) years.
  • Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), and Influenza.
  • Representative physical demands of the job include normal vision and hearing, standing for extended periods, sitting for extended periods, kneeling, and stooping, manipulating objects with hands, reaching overhead, and occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 45 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the care and supervision of all enrolled PACE Education center-based children, planning and implementing classroom lessons, conducting meetings and conferences with parents, coordinating activities and events for children and parents, interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone, email and in person, and preparing correspondence, reports, records, and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment and encourage the involvement of families to strengthen the relationships between children, families, and community.
  • Communicate timely and effectively with the Regional Site Director (RSD)/Site Director (SD) as needed throughout the day.
  • Ensure the proper care, safety, and supervision of children always while on PACE premises.
  • Oversee supervision and management of children in the classroom to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment.
  • Maintain record keeping and reporting systems to ensure accurate information, with timely completion and follow-up.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment for the classroom.
  • Create and modify the daily classroom lesson plans in accordance with established curriculum.
  • Provide a healthy and safe physical environment for the children and integrate the parents into the educational program by providing a program that focuses on the parent as the prime educational provider.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences and home visits twice a year in accordance with Head Start performance standards.
  • Provide for the completion of necessary paperwork on the children in the classroom such as attendance reports, observations on individual children in the classroom, enrollment records and reports.
  • Ensure the child/adult ratio is met and maintained.
  • Conduct safety checks and maintain a safe, clean, care-giving environment, practices good personal hygiene and handwashing, and assures the well-being and safety of all the children in the environment and sanitize all areas of the classroom, including food preparation and eating area.
  • Tend to children’s personal hygiene needs, during routines such as diaper changing, cleaning, feeding, and changing soiled or wet clothes.
  • Assist Teaching Staff with teacher-parent conferences and home visits, as needed.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks (including dishwashing duties).
  • Cover rest and meal breaks for Teaching Staff at the site according to the developed break schedule.
  • Support classroom teaching staff with various tasks (i.e., typing, printing, photocopying, stepping into a classroom so they can complete a task, etc.) as needed/requested and as available.
  • Substitute as needed/required in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  • Maintain the appropriate credentials and experience to serve as the Center Director for Community Care Licensing purposes should the Regional Site Director (RSD) be absent.
  • Ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, federal and state regulation, and Community Care Licensing requirements.
  • Receive and send mail/documents through the Interoffice Mailbag system.
  • Delegate task to other site staff as needed.
  • Address inquiries from the public, parents, etc., as applicable.
  • Any issues that require a supervisor’s attention are to be directed to the Regional Site Director (RSD).
  • Complete on-going professional development through education, role modeling, mentoring, and providing training and resources.
  • Build relationships and participate in community collaborations and events to enhance Head Start services.
  • Submits needed classroom/curriculum supply order requests to Regional Site Director or Warehouse Clerk as needed for effective service delivery.
  • Attend all assigned meetings and trainings as required by the program.
  • Support and ensure the achievement of recruitment and enrollment goals.
  • Assists in accomplishing the program's non-federal share through the access of community resources (services, donations, discounts, and/or goods).
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
