About The Position

The Construction Technician is a vital position contributing to Industrial Engineering’s ability to effectively support the continuity of operations for NOG-L. This position is part of a group that supports 85-100 contractor employees on a daily basis. This unit is responsible for the construction of facilities and management of facility infrastructure, new construction, renovations, and equipment installation/relocations, as well as, facilities maintenance. This position reports directly to the FM&IP Construction Front Line Manager.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and at least four (4) years of relevant construction or industrial maintenance experience.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to understand various craft disciplines and facility infrastructure systems.
  • Must have or become trained in all safety programs such as LOTO, Fall Protection, Aerial Lifts, Ignitions Source, Escort and Computer Escort, Forklifts, All Terrain Lifts and any other required trainings.
  • Industrial maintenance of construction familiarity of BWXT facility infrastructure knowledge required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.
  • Selected applicants are required to successfully complete a pre-employment check and drug screening.
  • The position may require the ability to obtain and maintain applicable federal eligibility requirements for access to classified/sensitive information or matter which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test, previous employment, and reference verifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of SAP maintenance and inventory modules is preferred.
  • Thinks technically and has good problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Safety must be top priority.
  • Works closely with the Construction FLM and IE Planning.
  • Help organize and implement large employee events (e.g. Employee Appreciation Day, Ham/Turkey Dist. Etc.).
  • Daily inputs comments in SAP summarizing the days efforts on work orders.
  • Works with outside vendors and contractors on a daily basis.
  • Works with departments outside FM&IP for maintenance and project execution.
  • Work during annual facility Shutdown in July and intervals between Christmas and New Years.
  • Must be able to work with other support groups to execute critical work such as Security, Radiation Control, Environmental Safey Health & Safeguards, Waste Treatment, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented, collaborative environment is required.
  • Completes construction tasks such as but not limited to, operating all types of lifts, moving office furniture and small equipment, assembling office furniture, patching concrete, installing handrails, mirrors, snow removal, permit issuance for contractors, hanging plastic to support uncleared vendors, and many other miscellaneous construction tasks.
