The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center (ASC) houses the regulatory laboratories for the Department of Agriculture. The labs consist of the Food & Drug Protection Division Chemistry, Microbiology, and Pesticide Residue labs; the Veterinary Division Animal Disease Diagnostic lab; the Standards Division Weights and Measures lab, and the Standards Division Fuel Quality testing lab. These laboratories form the scientific basis for all regulatory work performed by the Department ensuring consumer protection for human and animal food, commerce, and animal health. This facility also houses a Biosafety Level III lab analyzing for pathogenic micro-organisms and an animal necropsy lab. The Facility Maintenance section is responsible for all buildings and maintenance for the ASC and the three veterinary division’s satellite laboratories. This position assists with maintenance and repairs of the general physical building, mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems, equipment, and surrounding grounds of the ASC and the three satellite laboratories. This includes assisting with monitoring all operating systems including chillers, boilers, HVAC, and incinerators, and repairing plumbing and electrical issues.
