About The Position

This position is fully grant funded by Veteran's Upward Bound, funded through August 2027; position funding may be extended beyond that date by a no-cost extension of the grant. The Site and Outreach Coordinator will supervise and direct Pueblo Community College (PCC) Site operations, coordinate and supervise all operations at the PCC site, and maintain the PCC Veterans Lounge schedule. This role involves supervising and assigning duties to 5–7 VA Work-Study employees and overseeing and coordinating 1–3 instructors and tutors. The coordinator will serve as the primary liaison between VUB and PCC campus administration, coordinate and provide veteran-focused services, and maintain positive working relationships with PCC staff and administration. Responsibilities include maintaining office supplies, textbooks, and learning materials, interviewing and hiring instructors, reviewing student progress, and creating classroom schedules and curriculum. The position also involves full VUB casework responsibility, including advising and interviewing veterans, completing intake folders, admitting qualified veterans, maintaining records for grant requirements, managing database entry, developing comprehensive plans for veterans, and coordinating with instructors for TABE examinations. Additionally, the role includes outreach coordination for Pueblo/Fremont County, identifying and recruiting participants, conducting public speaking events, designing marketing strategies, acting as a liaison with local veteran organizations, producing public service announcements, fostering business contacts, and advocating for veteran students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year institution.
  • Knowledge of Veteran culture and community.
  • Experience in a position or activity that required proficient verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with students reported as first generation, those from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, or veteran populations.
  • Experience that required or resulted in understanding of the impact of military service culture on learning.
  • Good written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct Pueblo Community College (PCC) Site operations.
  • Coordinate and supervise all operations at the PCC site.
  • Maintain the PCC Veterans Lounge schedule, ensuring it is open 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Supervise and assign duties to 5–7 VA Work-Study employees.
  • Oversee and coordinate 1–3 instructors and tutors.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between VUB and PCC campus administration.
  • Coordinate and provide veteran-focused services, including food, coffee, beverages, computers, printing, tutoring, and resource distribution, to support all campus veterans.
  • Coordinate with staff and administration at PCC while maintaining positive and constructive working relationships.
  • Maintain office supplies, textbooks and learning materials.
  • Interview, hire and write instructor hiring requests for the classes offered in the VUB Program.
  • Review, update and track student progress, attendance and enrollment.
  • Create classroom schedules and curriculum for VUB courses.
  • Assist in creating program evaluations and reviews; update and rewrite forms and brochures as required.
  • Advise and interview veterans, completing intake folders to support program participation.
  • Admit qualified veterans to the VUB program.
  • Maintain records to satisfy grant requirements and objectives, including completing, reviewing, and quality-checking student intake forms and records.
  • Manage database entry and updates to support the annual report.
  • Develop comprehensive plans for each veteran to ensure program compliance and student success.
  • Coordinate with instructors in math and English to administer the TABE examination and measure student progress.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting required annual Federal Reporting.
  • Identify, target, and recruit participants from the local community, focusing efforts on Fremont and Pueblo Counties to support enrollment in the VUB program.
  • Identify trends in student needs, wants and demands and develop processes and operations to improve student retention and enrollment.
  • Conduct, design and participate in informational public speaking events and workshops.
  • Assist in designing new service marketing strategies and models to maximize service quality.
  • Act as a liaison with local veteran organizations/groups.
  • Produce public service announcements for print, radio and TV advertising/outreach.
  • Foster current business contacts and relationships while also developing new partnerships for future projects.
  • Speak in the community as an advocate for veterans.
  • Advocate for veteran students and mediate issues between students and academic institution.
