About The Position

Provide direct care for five days, emergency relief direct care as needed, office, and transportation assistance to the boy care department, establish and maintain a healthy family environment with children in need. Demonstrate commitment, acceptance, friendship, affection and respect for children, consistent with the mission and goals of West Texas Boys Ranch. Willing to commit to the spirit and practice of the mission and goals of WTBR as expressed through the boy care program. Stable, loving, mature, responsible role model; desire and ability to make long-term commitment to caring for boys in need, capable of establishing and maintaining rapport and understanding relationships with both boys and adults.

  • Must maintain current driver license and be able to be insured through WTBR insurance to drive a Ranch vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Serve as sole cottage parent for five days and provide relief to other cottages as needed.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, structured, nurturing family environment for residents.
  • Consult, plan, and administer care for each boy, maintaining records according to licensing standards and Ranch procedures.
  • Initiate teachings with boys to encourage independent thinking, willingness to trust, and ability to rebound from mistakes.
  • Help boys distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
  • Attend and implement a minimum of twenty hours of training per year to meet TDFPS and WTBR standards.
  • Provide essential daily living services 24 hours per day during the five days on shift.
  • Develop and implement a plan of care for each boy in consultation with WTBR casework, administrative, or consultative personnel.
  • Assist in the transportation of boys to and from appointments and events.
  • Nurture the spiritual growth of each boy and provide for regular participation in church life.
  • Manage the cottage, including financial records, weekly reports, menu planning, and meal preparation.
  • Maintain TDFPS requirements regarding boy's care, fire, health, and safety standards, housekeeping, maintenance, and upkeep of the cottage, van, and grounds.
  • Maintain a file on each boy including medical, physiological, school, personal, and Plan of Service information.
  • Maintain communication logs on each boy to communicate with cottage parent staff, casework staff, and therapists.
  • Maintain a clothing inventory for each boy.
  • Provide office support for Boy Care Staff, Learning Center, Farm and Ranch Manager, and Administration.
  • Serve as primary transporter during normal office hours.
  • Be trained to complete a run schedule.
  • Assist Program Director in other assigned duties.
  • Maintain a current driver's license and be insurable through WTBR insurance to drive a Ranch vehicle.
  • Assist in WTBR activities, programs, and special events as needed.
