About The Position

The FT Simulation/Lab Coordinator – Simulation Specialist / Clinical Instructor serves a critical role in supporting high-quality clinical education, simulation-based learning, and student success within Nursing Education and Allied Health Programs at Johnston Community College. This position supports the existing Nursing Education Programs Simulation Specialist and collaborates with faculty to coordinate, develop, implement, and evaluate simulation learning experiences that strengthen clinical reasoning, communication, teamwork, psychomotor skills, and patient care competencies across health science programs at Johnston Community College. The position supports faculty and students through structured simulation experiences, laboratory instruction, clinical coordination, and clinical teaching activities designed to meet program outcomes, accreditation standards, and workforce needs. The FT Simulation/Lab Coordinator – Simulation Specialist / Clinical Instructor collaborates with Nursing Education and Allied Health faculty to ensure simulation resources, equipment, and learning activities are effectively utilized to prepare students for safe, competent, evidence-based practice. This position also supports Nursing Education Programs as a clinical, laboratory, and/or classroom instructor as needed to assist with instructional delivery, student learning, and program operations as needed.

Requirements

  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing with a focus in Nursing Education or Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing or PhD in Nursing Candidate and meet the education requirements for Nurse Educators as outlined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing within the first three years of employment, which includes: have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) Certification required, or obtain within 3 years of hire.
  • Two (2) calendar years, or the equivalent of, full time clinical practice experience as a registered nurse.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina
  • American Heart Association, Health Care Provider CPR – Adult, Infant, Child
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Support the existing Nursing Education Programs Simulation Specialist in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating simulation learning activities for Nursing Education Programs and Allied Health Programs.
  • Coordinate, develop, implement, and evaluate simulation-based learning experiences for Nursing Education Programs and Allied Health Programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design simulation scenarios, laboratory activities, clinical experiences, and debriefing strategies that support student learning outcomes, course objectives, and program outcomes.
  • Provide simulation instruction, laboratory instruction, and clinical instruction for students in assigned Nursing Education and Allied Health programs.
  • Support Nursing Education Programs as a clinical instructor, laboratory instructor, and/or classroom instructor as needed.
  • Coordinate daily operations of simulation laboratories including scheduling, equipment management, supplies, software, inventory, and learning resources.
  • Maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and assist with simulation equipment including high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, audiovisual systems, computers, and simulation technology.
  • Facilitate simulation experiences, student skills development, debriefing sessions, and evaluation of student performance related to clinical and simulation learning.
  • Support compliance with accreditation, regulatory, safety, and program standards applicable to Nursing Education and Allied Health programs.
  • Maintain accurate records related to simulation activities, student learning experiences, clinical requirements, equipment maintenance, and program documentation.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, advisory committees, recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Foster collaborative and interprofessional learning opportunities among Nursing Education Programs and Allied Health Programs when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with IT specialist at Johnston Community College to ensure all simulation equipment is operational, has received updates to products, and manages warranties/contracts for equipment.
  • Ensures that those are included into the budget process collaborating with the Dean of the area.
  • Promote a professional, student-centered learning environment supporting critical thinking, communication, teamwork, safe patient care, and workforce readiness.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean of Nursing Education, Allied Health leadership, or Associate Vice President of Health, Wellness & Human Services.
