About The Position

This position develops, instructs and coordinates courses in Continuing Education for the Criminal Justice Program while planning, organizing, and coordinating other requested courses. The faculty will create a learning and teaching environment for students in accordance with the educational objectives of the college with an understanding of student success strategies. This is a 12M position.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of students through various mediums of instructional delivery; educational philosophy compatible with the role of the community college.
  • Ten (10) years of Criminal Justice Practitioner Experience with supervisory experience.
  • Instruction in adult learners and diverse populations.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of students and stakeholders through various mediums of instructional delivery; educational philosophy compatible with the role of the community college.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • A complete knowledge of Microsoft products as used in overall management in an educational environment is required.

Nice To Haves

  • current NCJA General Instructor Certified (or able to obtain within 90 days)
  • current NCJA Specialized Instructor for Firearms, and/or Driving, School Director or Qualified Assistant experience for State Commission courses (or able to obtain in 90 days).
  • Possess a current CPR certificate or ability to obtain.
  • Fifteen (15) years of Criminal Justice Practitioner Experience or related fields with supervisory, administrative, budgeting, certification and instruction in adult learning of diverse populations in BLET and In-service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and teaches Criminal Justice continuing education courses
  • Develops law enforcement courses in accordance with current local law enforcement needs by researching and designing new training programs and updates existing training and documentation
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Defensive Driving Program
  • Schedules classes to meet student needs at all locations, times, and formats
  • Collaborates with internal auditors to ensure program compliance with all NCCCS rules and NC Training and Standards rules
  • Assist with completing all College documents to prepare a course for deliver and post-delivery (setups, schedules, class reservations, CSAs, packet preparation, and closeout checklists)
  • Works with the advisory board and area agencies to meet their training needs
  • Coordinates Con Ed in-service training for Law Enforcement service area
  • Maintains all course records and documentation for in-service courses
  • Maintains the In-Service calendar and advertise through all available resources
  • Reviews instructor lesson plans and other instructional materials for conformance to Commission standards
  • Ensures course deliveries are following Commission procedures and standards, considers advisory guidelines issued by the Commission, and ensures the training offered is safe, effective and within Commission guidelines.
  • Provides support and direction to part-time instructors who assist in the planning, development, presentation or administration of courses for the area
  • Participates in the marketing of programs, recruitment of students, and makes presentations to outside stakeholders
  • Administrative duties directly related to NC Commission courses (NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards and NC Sheriff’s Education and Training and Standards Commissions)
  • Liaise with NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards and NC Sheriff’s Education and Training and Standards Commissions.
  • Serves as a Qualified Assistant to Commission Courses
  • Assist with the coordination of the JCCHowell Woods Training Facility
  • Audits/visitations of In-Service classes according to JCC Policy
  • Other duties as assigned.
