About The Position

Point Loma Nazarene University is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Simulation Coordinator to support innovative teaching and experiential learning within the School of Nursing. Working closely with the Director of Innovative Learning, this role is responsible for coordinating simulation-based learning experiences that prepare nursing students with the clinical knowledge, technical skills, and confidence needed for professional practice. The Simulation Coordinator serves as the operational leader for the simulation lab, ensuring that simulation activities, equipment, technology, and learning environments are prepared to deliver realistic, high-quality educational experiences. This position partners with faculty, students, and community healthcare partners to support curriculum objectives, accreditation standards, and student success through hands-on, immersive learning.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in technology, healthcare, or a related field
  • Strong computer proficiency including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and database management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to learn new software, hardware, and simulation technologies independently
  • Ability to supervise student employees and coordinate community volunteers
  • CHSE or CHSOS certification obtained within one year of employment
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant.

  • Familiarity with simulation technologies, standardized patient programs, and curriculum mapping software such as EXXAT
  • Experience coordinating educational technology, instructional resources, or laboratory operations

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the daily operations of the nursing simulation laboratory to ensure learning environments are fully prepared for instructional activities
  • Prepare simulation rooms, equipment, supplies, moulage, and learning resources for scheduled simulation experiences
  • Operate simulation technology and manikins during instructional sessions to support realistic learning experiences
  • Reset simulation spaces and replenish supplies between learning activities
  • Provide orientation and training for students regarding simulation lab procedures, equipment, and safety protocols
  • Support graduate student clinical experiences conducted within the simulation environment
  • Maintain inventory of simulation equipment, supplies, and educational resources
  • Coordinate maintenance, repair, and replacement of simulation equipment and technical systems
  • Manage standardized patient agreements and related documentation through university systems
  • Utilize simulation and curriculum management software to support documentation and program operations
  • Monitor equipment functionality and coordinate technology troubleshooting as needed
  • Partner with faculty and clinical instructors to effectively integrate simulation into nursing curricula
  • Provide technical assistance during simulation activities and learning exercises
  • Assist faculty during simulation debriefing sessions and provide supportive coaching to students regarding communication, professionalism, and clinical expectations
  • Recruit, coordinate, and support standardized patients, community volunteers, and simulation participants
  • Supervise and support student employees working within the simulation laboratory
  • Develop and enhance simulation scenarios that support curriculum objectives and active learning
  • Collect, maintain, and organize simulation assessment data and student learning outcome information
  • Participate in evaluation and continuous improvement of simulation activities and operational processes
  • Support clinical placement activities and other School of Nursing operational initiatives as assigned
  • Assist with simulation days, special events, interprofessional education activities, and other program initiatives
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current with simulation technologies and healthcare education best practices
