About The Position

Oaklawn is seeking a talented individual to become a Silks Coordinator. This role is responsible for ensuring jockeys have the correct silks for the owner/trainer in the current race. The position involves checking, cleaning, and maintaining silks, towels, and helmet covers, ensuring proper silks are hung for each owner and race, and maintaining records of silks delivered to the jocks room. The ideal candidate will be at least 21 years of age, able to read, write, understand, and speak English, and comfortable working around horses and with other racing officials. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and within a team, excellent problem-solving skills, and the capacity to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in a fast-paced, sometimes crowded or noisy environment. The position also requires the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, stand/sit/walk for periods, work in inclement weather, and lift up to 50 lbs. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, and the ability to obtain an Arkansas Racing License is necessary.

Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop and kneel
  • Requires frequent wrist and hand use
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
  • Written communication skills in in English may also be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arkansas Racing License.

Responsibilities

  • Making sure the jockey has the correct silks for the owner / trainer they are for in the current race.
  • Checks, cleans and maintains all silks, towels and helmet covers
  • Ensures proper silks are hung for each owner, each race
  • Maintains records of all silks delivered to the jocks room
  • Ability to work required hours
  • Regular punctual attendance required
