About The Position

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in-person co-creation, relationship-building, and hands-on partnership with leaders across the organization. Our ESD Engineering department in our Rapid Transit Office is looking for a Signals Communication Specialist to join the team. You will provide engineering assurance, design, verification and validation of communications/signaling infrastructure to meet established regulatory, corporate, and contractual standards.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Master degree in Signaling Engineering or a related disciplines such as automation, electronics, control systems
  • Demonstrated experience in railway signal/communications systems design, commissioning, and/or maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience in CADD drafting
  • Technical experience in conventional signaling, crossing warnings, electrical, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and communications projects, and signal systems network design and architecture, routing, switching, and firewalls
  • Knowledge of the railway signalling standards and regulations
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience in ProjectWise, SharePoint, GCS, BlueBeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop standard procedures, presentations, and reports alternative technological approaches, options, and solutions
  • A valid Class “G” driver’s license in good standing is required

Responsibilities

  • Review, comment and verify signaling design documents prepared by others
  • Perform application software analysis and simulation
  • Provide investigation of the signaling system failure and propose technical solutions
  • Perform Signaling systems drafting and design
  • Perform field correlation and provide CADD update
  • Implement quality assurance programs, including audit plans, to meet external governing regulatory bodies’ provisions
  • Research, evaluate, document, and report alternative technological approaches, options, and solutions to signal and/or communications problems
  • Develop scope of work and specification documents
