About The Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide each of your assigned residents with routine daily care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and as may be directed by your supervisors. This role involves ensuring residents receive proper daily care, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment, and accurately documenting all resident interactions and conditions. The Shower Aide is expected to adhere to all facility policies and procedures, cooperate with other departments, and report any changes in resident status or facility issues promptly.

Requirements

  • High school education or its equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite products.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Prolonged use of a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk and talk, read or hear.
  • Frequent use of all office-related equipment to include; copier/scanner/fax, telephone, and calculator.

Responsibilities

  • Provide each assigned resident with routine daily care and services according to their assessment and care plan.
  • Use PCC to ensure correct resident information when assisting with ALDS, meals, etc.
  • Report all changes in residents' conditions to the Health and Wellness Director promptly.
  • Record all entries on notes, SPAs, and incident reports in an informative and descriptive manner.
  • Report all observed accidents and incidents to the Executive Director and Health and Wellness Director on the shift they occur.
  • Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations.
  • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access community’s information system.
  • Perform only trained care tasks.
  • Ensure resident rooms are ready (e.g., bed made).
  • Greet residents and escort them to their rooms.
  • Introduce residents to roommates, other residents, and personnel as appropriate.
  • Make residents comfortable.
  • Inventory and mark residents’ personal possessions as instructed.
  • Store resident’s clothing.
  • Assist residents with packing personal possessions when transferring rooms or being discharged.
  • Transport residents to new rooms or to the receiving area.
  • Assist with loading/unloading residents to/from vehicles as necessary.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment.
  • Meet with nursing personnel to identify and correct problem areas or improve services.
  • Report all complaints and grievances made by residents.
  • Participate in and receive the nursing report.
  • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Make beds (occupied and unoccupied) and put extra covers on beds as requested.
  • Ensure residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently.
  • Answer resident calls promptly.
  • Check residents routinely to ensure personal care needs are met.
  • Assist residents with identifying food arrangements (e.g., informing visually impaired residents of food on their tray).
  • Keep residents' water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water within easy reach.
  • Perform after-meal care (e.g., remove trays, clean resident’s hands, face, clothing).
  • Receive the nursing report upon reporting for duty.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures and supervisor instructions.
  • Follow work assignments and schedules.
  • Cooperate with inter-departmental and other facility personnel.
  • Notify the facility when late or absent from work.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Assist residents with daily functions (dental and mouth care, bath functions, hair combing, dressing/undressing).
  • Keep residents dry (change gown, clothing, and linens when wet or soiled).
  • Assist residents in preparing for medical tests.
  • Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents.
  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  • Assist in preparing residents for physical examinations.
  • Check each resident routinely to ensure personal care needs are met according to their wishes.
  • Observe and report pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent decubitus ulcers.
  • Report injuries of an unknown source, including skin tears.
  • Observe disoriented and comatose residents.
  • Record and report data as instructed.
  • Perform special treatments as instructed.
  • Immediately notify the Nurse of any resident leaving/missing from the facility.
  • Use only trained equipment.
  • Report defective equipment to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information.
  • Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of information.
  • Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
  • Honor resident’s refusal of treatment requests and report such requests to a supervisor.
  • Give back rubs as instructed.
  • Assist residents with hair care functions (combing, brushing, shampooing).
  • Assist residents with nail care (clipping, trimming, cleaning).
  • Shave male residents.
  • Keep hair on female residents clean (facial hair, under arms, on legs) as instructed.
  • Position bedrest residents in correct and comfortable positions.
  • Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions (e.g., take to bathroom, offer bedpan, urinal, portable commode).
  • Maintain intake and output records as instructed.
  • Keep incontinent residents clean and dry.
  • Check and report bowel movements and character of stool as instructed.
  • Utilize protective and adaptive equipment as instructed.
  • Provide eye and ear care (hearing aid installation, cleaning eyeglasses/hearing aids) as instructed.
  • Weigh and measure residents as instructed.
  • Measure and record temperatures, pulse, and respirations (TPRs) as instructed.
  • Assist with the care of the end-of-life resident.
  • Assist with post-mortem care as instructed.
