About The Position

Turner Industries is seeking a Shop Supervisor for a position in the Houston, TX area. This role is responsible for exercising independent judgment and supervising/directing a group of workers engaged chiefly in one occupation. The position reports to the Superintendent or Site Manager and involves developing procedures for the performance of a variety of duties and performing complex duties within established guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year experience as a Foreman in specified skill or equivalent combinations of training and related experience
  • Must be able to pass background checks
  • Proficient in the craft he/she is supervising
  • Must understand Lock out and Tag out procedures and how to identify isolation points, read P&ID's, and be able to field verify a system isolation.
  • Have an understanding of QA/QC audits and how to maintain records for such audits.
  • Have a basic knowledge of fitting and pulling measurements on piping.
  • Knowledgeable on various welding techniques and metals and the hazards associated with them.
  • Ability to utilize basic computer programs, to perform monthly weld tracking reports, daily time sheets, and client work order programs.
  • Obtains excellent leadership and mentoring skills
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

  • TWIC highly preferred
  • Preferred to have NCCER craft certifications and leadership certifications such as NCCER Crew Leader or Turner Leadership Training

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and directing a group of workers engaged chiefly in one occupation.
  • Developing procedures for performance of a variety of duties.
  • Performing complex duties within established guidelines.
  • Setting a high standard for Turner and Client Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Projecting clear expectations to all employees under supervision.
  • Supervising welders, fitters, and helpers both in the fab shop and in the field.
  • Understanding Lock out and Tag out procedures and how to identify isolation points, read P&ID's, and field verify system isolation.
  • Understanding QA/QC audits and how to maintain records for such audits.
  • Interpreting blueprints, sketches, written and/or verbal orders.
  • Estimating worker-hours and materials required to complete the job.
  • Assigning duties, lining up and following up all work, and being responsible for production of the unit.
  • Inspecting work to ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Training and assisting workers in the performance of their duties.
  • Supervising and coordinating activities of assigned construction workers.
  • Interpreting company policies to workers and enforcing safety regulations.
  • Establishing and adjusting work sequences to meet construction schedule, using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel.
  • Analyzing and resolving work-related problems.
  • Implementing project safety programs.
  • Maintaining time, production, and other records.
  • Estimating worker-hour requirements for completion of job.
  • Making cost estimates for contracts.
  • Performing additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
