About The Position

V3 Companies, a multidisciplinary AEC firm, is seeking a Shop Mechanic in our West Chicago, IL office. V3 Companies' Construction and Ecological Restoration Practice Areas perform a wide range of services related to construction of site infrastructure, wetland mitigation and native landscape including installations and long-term maintenance. Equipment utilized for this work includes a fleet of vehicles along with small tractors, skid steers, power tools, trucks, trailers, and other miscellaneous power equipment. As our Shop Mechanic, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping our fleet of vehicles and equipment running smoothly. We’re looking for someone with a blend of technical expertise and hands-on skills.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of engine and machine operation.
  • Physical strength (ability to lift/carry at least 50 lbs).
  • Comfortable working on vehicles lifted overhead.
  • Adaptability to tight spaces.
  • Skill with hand tools.
  • Strong work ethic and teamwork.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the mechanic trade.
  • Understanding of general equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the mechanic trade.
  • Class A CDL (preferred).
  • Ability to train others on equipment operation and repairs.
  • In-depth knowledge of truck, trailer, and equipment weights.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general automotive repairs (think Ford F-series pickups and SUVs): Oil changes, Fluid replacements
  • Tackle minor engine repairs on small tractors, power tools, and landscape equipment.
  • Diagnose issues with vehicles and small engines.
  • Keep the shop organized and maintain documentation.
  • Comfortably use computers for work orders, timecards, and purchase orders.
  • Standard gas engine repairs (trucks): Belt replacements, Hose repairs, Pump replacements
  • Minor diesel engine maintenance (oil changes, fluid checks).
  • Major repairs and rebuilding of small engines (power tools).
  • Brake replacements.
  • Automotive heating and cooling.
  • Basic metal fabrication and welding.
  • Hydraulic line replacements.
  • Occasional field repairs for landscape equipment and attachments.
  • Diagnose complex engine issues.
  • Overhaul both gas and diesel engines.
  • Repair and rebuild transmissions.
  • Rebuild hydraulic cylinders, control valves, and pumps.
  • Master structural welding and metal fabrication.
