About The Position

The Head Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of our fleet and equipment, which includes Dodge, Ford, and Isuzu trucks, John Deere mowers, and Stihl small engine tools, among other items. This key individual will not only maintain and repair equipment but also be tasked with developing an inventory management process, emphasizing preventive maintenance to eliminate any risk of accidents due to poor maintenance. With a focus on minimizing unplanned downtime due to reactive repairs and improving lean performance and cost efficiency. The Head Mechanic will work closely with the operational team to anticipate needs and ensure equipment reliability and readiness.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance, with a specialized focus on the mentioned brands (Dodge, Ford, Isuzu, John Deere, and Stihl).
  • Prior experience in or aptitude for creating and managing an inventory system, with an emphasis on efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading a team, with strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and motivate mechanics.
  • A strong advocate for safety, with knowledge of best practices in preventive maintenance and experience in implementing safety standards in a workplace.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of improving process efficiency, particularly in a lean and cost-sensitive operating environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an efficient inventory management system for tracking parts and supplies, ensuring critical parts are always in stock without overextending the budget.
  • Champion a safety-first culture, emphasizing preventive maintenance to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure all equipment operates reliably and safely.
  • Proactively collaborate with the operations team to synchronize maintenance schedules with operational needs, aiming to minimize downtime and anticipate equipment demands.
  • Lead and manage a team of 1 to 2 small engine mechanics, fostering an environment of learning and efficiency.
  • Analyze current maintenance workflows for efficiency, identifying lean methods to reduce waste and optimize spending without compromising on the quality of maintenance.
  • Evaluate the current state of equipment maintenance, implementing process improvements and leveraging preventive maintenance strategies to extend equipment life and reduce unplanned repairs.
