About The Position

The Shop Machine Press Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a 500-ton press, likely a hydraulic press, to produce metal components according to specifications. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols. This position is an Individual Contributor role. The role directly reports to the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience operating press machines or similar industrial equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Adaptability and Agility to learn and contribute in varying and complex environments
  • Advanced Self-Awareness and Interpersonal skills
  • A consistently developing Business and Technical Acumen coupled with a drive to achieve results
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively verbally communicate directions from craft supervisors and respond to questions from managers and fellow workers.
  • Mathematical skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Must be able to read a tape measurement

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates and monitors the 500-ton press to ensure accurate and efficient production of parts.
  • Studies blueprints, layouts, and sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operation, and setup requirements.
  • Loading and unloading materials, potentially including metal plates or components, into the press.
  • Perform routine machine adjustments to maintain product quality.
  • Inspect finished parts using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure specifications are met.
  • Conduct quality checks and document production results.
  • Troubleshoot basic machine issues and escalate complex problems as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of equipment.
  • Follow all safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintaining accurate production records and other relevant documentation.
  • Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
  • Performs other duties and activities as required.
