Shop Labourer (Summer Student)
About The Position
SMS is seeking Shop Labourers for a temporary, full-time term of 2 months for the summer with an anticipated start date of June 29, 2026. The Shop Labourers will assist the warehouse and maintenance team with any general labourer duties and assisting the yard team with ensure both the branch and yard are organized. We are looking for candidates who are eager to learn, enjoys physical work and has a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety. This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise). Requirements
- Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment
- Previous industry related work experience
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Working knowledge of computers
- Valid Class 5 Drivers’ License
- Minimum of 18 years of age
Nice To Haves
- Forklift, WHMIS, Fall Arrest, Fire Extinguisher, TDG, First Aid, and Hoisting and Rigging training an asset (must be willing to be trained on forklift)
Responsibilities
- General cleaning and shop work
- Prepping service equipment and parts
- Assist with yard maintenance
- Forklift operation and maintenance, as required
- Dealing with customers and suppliers
- Moving tools, materials, and equipment, as required
