About The Position

Sonsray is seeking an entry-level Shop Installer Technician to support its Fleet division in San Leandro, California. This is an opportunity to begin a hands-on career in diesel, refrigeration, or fleet maintenance. The role supports installation work in a fast-paced shop environment and is suited to a mechanically inclined person who is eager to learn and grow. The technician assists with installing Thermo King vehicle-powered (VP) and auxiliary power units (APU) on trucks, tractors, and vans. The role also includes supporting senior technicians with mechanical installations, component mounting, basic wiring, and system setup; following installation, safety, and quality guidelines; and handling basic shop tasks. The technician documents work as directed and helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Sonsray is the West Coast's largest Thermo King dealership, serving the construction, transportation, and agriculture industries with sales, parts, service, rental, and leasing. Requirements

Mechanical aptitude or interest in pursuing a career in fleet, diesel, or equipment service.
Willingness to learn new skills and follow instructions from senior technicians.
Ability to safely operate hand and power tools; tools are provided.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
Ability to work in a shop environment, including standing, bending, lifting, and working with tools and equipment.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record, as required.
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented.

Nice To Haves

Previous hands-on experience in automotive, diesel, HVAC, construction, or a shop environment is a plus but is not required.

Responsibilities

Assist with installation of Thermo King vehicle-powered (VP) and auxiliary power units (APU) on trucks, tractors, and vans.
Support senior technicians with mechanical installations, component mounting, basic wiring, and system setup.
Follow installation guidelines, safety procedures, and quality standards.
Perform basic shop tasks, including organizing tools, staging parts, and cleaning the work area.
Learn and use hand and power tools in a shop environment.
Accurately document work performed as directed by the Service Manager or lead technician.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Perform other duties as assigned to support shop operations and dealership objectives.
