About The Position
The Shop Hand supports the smooth operation of a shop or production facility by keeping the work area clean and organized, stocking and arranging inventory, and assisting skilled workers with shop tasks. The role may also involve helping customers in retail settings and performing physical work such as lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, and moving equipment or materials. Work may take place indoors and outdoors, around moving machinery, vehicles, and equipment. The position may involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, and varying temperatures, as well as extended periods of standing, walking, and manual labor. The Shop Hand is expected to follow safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment as required.
Requirements
- Physical stamina and strength to handle repetitive and physically demanding tasks.
- Hand-eye coordination and dexterity for precise handling of tools and materials.
- Basic math and reading skills to follow instructions, read shop drawings, and manage inventory.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, taking direction from supervisors while maintaining productivity.
Responsibilities
- Clean and organize the shop, remove damaged or misplaced items, and maintain a safe work environment.
- Stock and arrange inventory so products are properly displayed and accessible.
- Assist skilled workers with tasks such as using hand and power tools, reading shop drawings, and performing basic maintenance.
- Handle customer interactions in retail settings, including taking orders, fulfilling requests, and providing general assistance.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, and moving equipment or materials.
- Follow safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
