About The Position

The Shop Foreman oversees the daily operations of the service department. Their primary responsibilities include managing and coordinating the activities of the service technicians, ensuring efficient workflow, and delivering high-quality service and repairs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; further education or certification in automotive technology is a plus.
  • Prior experience as a service technician or a similar role in the automotive or equipment industry.
  • Strong technical and mechanical knowledge with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and motivate a team of technicians.
  • Proficient in using computerized diagnostic and repair equipment and software.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage a high volume of service requests efficiently.
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and at heights.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to site-specific protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision to a team of service technicians in performing repairs, maintenance, and installations.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to technicians based on their skills, experience, and workload.
  • Monitor technicians' performance, provide constructive feedback, and identify training needs.
  • Promote a positive work environment and resolve any conflicts or issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist in managing the service schedule, ensuring efficient utilization of technicians, equipment, and resources.
  • Prioritize and schedule repairs and maintenance jobs to maximize customer satisfaction and meet established deadlines.
  • Coordinate with Department Manager and customers to understand service requirements and expectations.
  • Assist with monitoring and control of the inventory of service parts and supplies, ensuring availability of necessary items.
  • Ensure that all repairs and services are performed according to company standards and industry best practices.
  • Review completed repairs and conduct quality inspections to identify any deficiencies or deviations from specifications.
  • Address customer concerns regarding the quality of service and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Stay updated with technical advancements and industry trends to maintain the highest level of service quality.
  • Provide technical assistance to service technicians and operators, helping them troubleshoot complex or challenging repairs.
  • Stay informed about manufacturer technical bulletins, recalls, and service procedures, and communicate them to the team.
  • Conduct regular training to enhance technicians' technical skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including proper usage of personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and implement measures to prevent accidents and injuries in the service department.
  • Stay updated on environmental regulations and ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste and fluids.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of all service activities, including repair orders, time and materials used, and customer communication.
  • Collaborate with the service manager and other department heads to improve service department performance and achieve departmental goals.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Maintain solid communication between Service, Sales, and Field Personnel.

  • Multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Contribute to the professional culture within the office and company overall.
  • Ability to work on call, out of the office, 24hr/7 days a week.
  • Travel as needed.
